three things.
1. what he said.
2. My church is doing a program called 40 Days of Purpose, where we all read a book called The Purpose-Driven Life, basically a manifesto on christian living. It's got some good stuff in there.
3. "Life is meaning."~ My own little epiphany.

The meaning of life is so God can watch little people run around!
But, seriously... I think God made us to share, to give... I mean, do you know how terrible it is to not exist?

In the famous, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy mice build a super computer like thing that will answer any question they think of. So the mice ask what is the meaning of life, why are we here all that kind of stuff. Then the machine, after 7 million years of waiting, says that 42 is the answer to life. Then the mice try to find out what 42 means and the stories continues... I haven't finished the entire series, so I really don't know if they ever do find out what 42 means.
But besides that, the point to having life is to live, recieve the love, repent your sins, have children and a wife, die happy, go to heaven or hell.

They don't find out what 42 means. They don't need to. The problem was they knew the answer to the great question of Life, The Universe, and Everything, but they didn't know exactly what the great question of Life, The Universe and Everything was. (And they never find out...)

Personally, I think the meaning of life is to make a difference before you die. I mean, it would have to be horrible being on your death bed thinking of all the times you could've changed a life and didn't...

Yes, but if all of our lives are meant to effect other's lives, then what are the lives of the ones that we effect?

No. The purpose of life is reproduction and self-satisfaction.

The meaning of life...I know I read a good quote on this a while ago, if you'll excuse me to search...
Aha, it is from Al Franken, Chapter 28 'Oh the Loneliness, the Loneliness!' of Oh, The Things I Know.
Granted, this is sort of odd and juvinile, but still...anyway, here are some excerpts that aren't too...well, that sort of work:
"During the brief time we spend here on earth, each one of us will confront the same unanswerable question. What is the meaning of life? Some may find a facile and semi-satisfying answer in religion, especially if they choose one of the higher ranked religions on my list in Chapter Nine. For others, solace will come from the handy oblivion offered by a bottle of bourbon, a hypodermic needle, or meaningless sex with an endless number of faceless partners.
But most of us, surrounded as we are by omnipresent reminders of the hopelessness and futility of the human condition, will not be able to take lasting comfort in any of these.
The tragic fact is that we are born alone and we die alone, even though surrounded by friends, family, family friends, doctors and nurses, some of whom might be family friends. In the same way, though we may spend our whole lives surrounded by others, many of whom may be very dear to us, we are always just one step away from a bottomless chasm called loneliness, into which we may plunge at any moment."
"The Latin poet Horace one wrote, ‘Life is a comedy to those who think and a tragedy to those who feel.’ To which I like to add, ‘And vice versa.’ So what is to be done? How are we to escape from the perilous maze of existence?
The answer is love. And not just of self. Or hat. But the type of love in which one’s being is merged with that of another. The type of love through which we glimpse, albeit fleetingly, the depths of another’s soul and they glimpse ours. I’ve never experienced this kind of love. Perhaps that’s why people think I’m cynical. But I remain ever hopeful, and that’s why I say in addition to love that the answer is also hope.
Yes, hope. The hope that the dawn of each new day heralds an infinite number of undreamt possibilities. Every one of which will be mine when I wake up in about three to four hours.
There you have it. Life’s meaning can be found in hopeful expectancy of absolute and unconditional love. Look around you. The Korean man behind the counter at the deli. The old woman carrying her shopping bags. The student. Anna Quindlen. Maria Shriver. Ben Franklin. All of them ever hopeful, believing in the eternal possibility of a merging of souls with their fellow man."
I don't know if that did anything...but ah well. Anyway, my OWN ideas...hum. I'm still thinking about it. What worries me is the thought that maybe life is meaningless. All of this has no reasoning whatsoever. We're born, we live, we die and there's no actual point. Everything we do, every consequence...means nothing.
I highly doubt this will sound like anything but insane rambling to everyone else though, and make me come across as an idiot. Ah well.
