What are your thoughts on the creation of genetically modified plants or animals? I'm for genetic modification because it could create pest-resistant plants, eliminating the need for pesticides. It could also create glowing flowers(with jellyfish genes) and black roses(the best kind!). However, there are risks to it. If a modified pest-resitant crop gets into the wild it would crowd out native plants. Do the benefits outweigh the risks? What about genetically modifying people? Discuss.

Well, I have a friend who is really really pro-genetic-modification. He insists that everything that's been said about genetic modification being harmful for the environment is falsified and that it's just people being closed-minded and paranoid about it. I don't know if that's fair... First of all, I respect what we have and don't think too much should be tampered with, which is not to say that I don't want good things like roundup-ready wheat and things (living in a farming province, that would really help our economy... but I'm not a real monsanto fan, so excuse me using that as an example), just that I know that there'll be no moderation once we start rolling and eventually genetically modified things will overcrowd native wildlife, which would really be a shame. Then again, I don't know if that'll actually make a difference. Maybe we could just make some more genetic modifications and make all our wildlife pretty and resistant to pollution, instead. *shrug*
Okay, so I can't predict the future, but I've always thought that if there's no way of predicting the outcome of something, it's better to just not play with it. Then again, said friend would probably laugh in my face for saying this (he's really into science and knows a lot more about that aspect of things, which I'm terribly uneducated on). I know there are definite benefits, but I also know that I don't want us to screw things up more than they already are. So... leave me undecided.

I think that we should just eliminate pollution, restore the environment, and leave it. God must have had good reason for making things as they are. With humans tampering with them, it would only lead to major screw-ups. I think that a little experimentation is acceptable to ensure ample food for humanity, but on the whole, we should just leave nature to it.
