If you want to look at it that way, isn't it Theoden's fault then? He could've used his king-gets-the-last-word power and overruled Aragorn's asking that Grima be spared. But instead, he went along with Aragorn and let Grima go running back to Saruman. Then he insisted that they all pack up and go to Helm's Deep. You notice he used his k.g.t.l.w. power there, right? So, I think it's Theoden's fault.

Grima kills Saruman in the Shire and the end of the Return of the King, so if Theoden had killed him way before that, who knows what would have happened?

Klaus, in "The Two Towers," Theoden wants to kill Grima after he finds out he and Saruman have been controlling him, but Aragorn says "Enough blood has been shed on his account" or something like that, and Grima gets away. Grima tells Saruman that Theoden is leading everyone to Helm's Deep and the Deep's weak point. So some people think that the whole Helm's Deep battle was Aragorn's fault, since he insisted Grima be set free.

Saruman would have found out anyway as he had spies everywhere. He wouldnt have needeed Grima to tell him.

So it wouldn't of mattered if he'd slain Grima...
Theoden forever!

The way I think of is as follows,
The battle was inevitable. Whether Grima was thrown out or not doesn't matter. Aragorn had nothing to do with the battles coming about. One way or another, the conflict would come about. If Saruman didn't do it, Sauron would.

I feel the same way, the last posts thoughts, but ARAGORN DID THE RIGHT THING BY LETTING GRIMA GO. It's a freaking long way to Isengard, and Grima had basically nothing with him, so he would starve. Yeah, Thedoen could have done that, but Grima freed or not, they would have gone to helms deep.
look at the script, and you'll see why. here's the excerpt that proves me:
ARAGORN Open war is upon you, whether you would risk it or not.
so, like it or not, they would have been attacked, and they would have ended up in Helm's deep like it or not.
