So, I decided to write about my day like Alice did about hers. Just so I could write it out in one big full story, instead of bits and pieces like I usually would.
The day started like any other before school. I had to wake up early, take a shower, and get dressed for school. I wasn't happy for today, cause I had to face the prospect of taking my Latin and History tests. But I got all my books, especially my copy of The Lump of Coal and got on my bus.
The day went by really slowly. I had to sit in a big auditorium and take both tests which weren't as hard as I thought they would. I actually finished both an hour before the time limit was up. Therefore, I had to sit and wait, but I chatted with a couple of my friends, so it wasn't that bad.
What was about to come later on in the day both excited and scared me a little. What would I say to Mr. Snicket? How would I act in front of him?
I was confident I'd give a good impression of myself. So, the thought of the signing was pushed back as I continued to wait in the auditorium.
Finally, my Latin test was done! Everyone in the room cheered and got up to leave, get their bookbags, and hang around until we had to leave at 4. I was waiting for the phone call that would take me away from the school and to the author whose books had and always will be a part of my life.
The phone call came and I rushed out to the car. We headed to Ridgewood to meet one of my favorite authors. We were running pretty late and I was getting really anxious.
"Hurry!" I yelled at my mom's boyfriend who was taking me.
"Don't worry, we'll get there." He said and laughed because he saw how crazy I was getting.
Finally, Bookends was in sight. I was getting closer to Mr. Handler and I could almost taste it. I walked downstairs where Mr. Snicket was sitting and to my surprise, sitting next to him was Mr. Brett Helquist. I was so amazed that I was going to be meeting both of them that I bought another copy of the Slippery Slope for them to sign.(No The End copies were left)
The line was extremely long, but I thought it was worth it, and plus, they remember the last people, right? While I was waiting, I noticed someone up at the table with Snicket, and it was Emma Squalor, from this site!
Sadly, she left before I could talk to her, but it seemed like Snicket enjoyed seeing her, at the time, I assumed she said she was from 667.
So, I waited and heard many great quotes from Snicket that should be definitely said on this site: (Disclaimer: Some of these quotes may not be exactly the way he said them)
" This family does not stop making babies!"
" I've learned to never make fun of people who have tattoos. You never know where they may have gotten them."
" You'd be surprised how much ruckus two men could make in your room and you'd never hear it."
(About Brett) " I call him This Guy, when he's not around."
The great personality of Snicket just beamed through the room. From screaming like a Latke who won't stop screaming at little children to poking fun at people, everyone had a good laugh.
And so came my moment, I was right there in front of both of them.
"Hello Tino," he said. "Very nice to meet you."
"Hi," I stuttered out. "I'm actually a member of 667 Dark Avenue, Cybermystery."
I turned to Brett. "Great illustrations, by the way."
"Thanks," He said.
Handler 's face beamed. " Very nice to meet you." He said with more joy in his voice. " Did you see someone else earlier who was from 667? She was here. I believe her name on 667 was Emma Squalor."
"Yes, I said. But I didn't get to meet her."
He finished signing my books and I asked him the big question.
"I asked you a question on 667 which you answered. I printed it out, may you sign it for me?"
" Sure." He said and looked at it. " Oh, you asked one of the thirteen. I finally can say this." And he wrote on my paper.
This is what he wrote.
I then took a picture which obviously caught Brett unaware.
I thanked him and he said it was a pleasure to meet him. What a night!
