Fiona said to Esme, "I hate conformity. At my old middle school, we had a very strict uniform. We could not wear makeup, facial jewlery, dye our hair wild colors, wear hair accessories that weren't black, navy, or marroon. For girls, our uniform consisted of this: marroon blazers with the school crest, navy skirts, marroon tights for colder months, white knee highs for warmer months, plain white blouses, black shoes, and the school necktie, which is marroon and navy. I got caught wearing a muted bubble gum pink lipstick once and I got a detention. I was a 6th grader at the time, so I couldn't get away with it. By the time I was in 8th grade, the teachers got sick of scolding me for just wearing natural looking makeup or wearing a turquoise hair elastic. I don't really get the point of school uniforms. I mean, gangsters can still sneak with the uniform on, taking away their identification 'marks'. And for many kids, what they wear expresses themselves. With uniforms, they make people nobodies."

"I completely agree," replied Violet. "I never understood the concept of school uniforms." Then, turning to Esme, "Something similar had happened somewhat recently, with Sunny. One day, a substitute teacher had asked the kids about the music they listened to. The first two mentioned children's songs and performers. Then, it was Sunny's turn."
"Sunny said that she liked Led Zeppelin," added Quigley. "The teacher laughed, and then asked her what she really liked. Sunny kept repeating and insisting that it was Led Zeppelin, which it is. The teacher got mad, though - and tried to make her take a time out."
"Then Sunny bit the teacher's arm," continued Violet. "I can't say we exactly blame her, even though we told her that what she did wasn't right. I had to leave my school, so that I could come and pick her up from school."
OOC: What would you say are some better ways Sunny could've handled the situation?

"My goodness," Esmé said, in answer to Fiona's explanation concerning the dress code of the younger woman's former school. "It never occurred to me just how firm school's rules could be in the future. Prufrock Prep - the school Carmelita attends - has a pretty strict dress code, too. But thankfully Vice Principal Nero looks the other way when it comes to her socks." Esmé smiled at the mention of her daughter's stripey, knee-high socks, which were an accessory to every outfit the twelve-year-old owned. Jerome's hand rose to his mouth at the revelation of Sunny's reaction to her teacher's criticism. "No! Little Sunny, using her teeth to actually hurt someone? I don't believe it." "She didn't mean it, I'm sure," Esmé said, remembering the time she'd beaten up Bruce Spats out of fury during their days together at the V.F.D. Training School. "She was just angry, and when you're angry, sometimes it's difficult to control your temper." (OOC: I think the best thing Sunny could have done was to explain the situation to her siblings and the Quagmires when she went home. Then they could have contacted the teacher and Sunny could have spared herself from getting into trouble.

Klaus and Isadora entered
"What is this place?" Isadora questioned.
"I don't know," replied Klaus. "But I'm sure we didn't take any acid."

"Oh, hi, you two," greeted Violet, smiling. She then added, "Just help yourselves to some ice cream. By the way, what year are you from?"
"Are you going to ask that to every new visitor who arrives?" Quigley asked, laughing. Then, turning to Jerome and Esme, he added, "Well, we didn't exactly condone what Sunny did - but it's understandable why she reacted the way she did."

"Klaus!" Jerome called, and waved to the middle Baudelaire. Jerome wondered if this was the same Klaus whom he and Esmé had once served as guardians to, along with Violet and Sunny. Jerome didn't recognize the girl with Klaus, but smiled politely in her direction anyway.
"I don't know what I'm going to do if our daughter ever gets into any physical fights," Esmé said to Quigley, before looking worriedly down at her stomach. She wasn't going to say so, but she couldn't force the concern from her mind in relation to where half her unborn child's (blood) parentage came from.
"Let's not worry about that until the time comes, dear," Jerome said, and squeezed his wife's hand reassuringly.
Esmé nodded, then turned to smile at Quigley and Violet. "I'd really appreciate it if you two could give me some parenting tips. I mean, raising Carmelita has taught me a great many things, but I know next to nothing when it comes to infants."

"We came from 1978," Isadora replied. "What year did you come from?"
Klaus saw Jerome wave at him and he waved back. He also saw Esme. He wondered if they came from before their divorce. Then again, Jerome and Esme look different from when he last saw either of them.

"We're from 1985," Violet replied, amused. "I think you're from the earliest, yet." Then, with a wistful sigh, she added, "Man, I miss the '70s. That was back when our parents were still alive, and our..."
"So far, that seems to be a constant in our worlds," Quigley pointed out. "It's odd, though, how they seemed to have occurred in different time periods in different worlds."
"What do you guys think of this music?" Emily asked, as she stroked Isadora's arm.
OOC: I think freebird and I imagine the Baudelaires and Quagmires the same way, but not Emma Squalor or Violet Marie.

Isadora looked down at the little girl. "The music is great," she said. "And who might you be?"
Klaus is helping himself to some mango flavored ice cream.

"It's 2001 in our world," Jerome informed Isadora. "We're from San Francisco. I don't believe we've ever met before, though, have we? My name is Jerome Squalor, and this is my wife, Esmé."

"I've heard about you two," Isadora said. "My name is Isadora Quagmire. Klaus and I came here from Boston."
"So you two are still married in your world?" Klaus asked.

"In our world," Violet explained, "Jerome is married to Justice Strauss. They adopted Friday, and have a son named Bertrand."
"My name's Emily," explained the little girl. "I'm the daughter of Violet and Quigley."
"So, for you guys," added Quigley, "I guess the events with Count Olaf occurred in the early '70s? We did recently find out that, at least as early as 1977, Count Olaf was making plans on going after the Baudelaires."
OOC: Do you guys have any ideas on where Emily should reside, prior to her birth?

"Justice Strauss died in the hotel fire," Klaus said. "It's really a shame. I haven't heard from Friday since she left the island."
"I wish I had met Justice Strauss," Isadora said. "She really sounds like a lovely woman."
"Our parents died in 1974, which is when we met Olaf," Klaus said. "Count Olaf died on the island a year later."
"It's very nice to meet you, Emily," said Isadora. "You are a very pretty girl. You look just like your mommy."

"Carmelita and I were rescued by Jerome and Vice Principal Nero during the fire," Esmé replied, in answer to Klaus' question concerning her and her husband. "After that, I took Carmelita and headed for the Mortmain Mountains. I was confused, and wasn't sure what to do next. I was worried that if I stayed, then all I'd do was cause trouble for my husband, who'd performed such a heroic act by nearly sacrificing his own life to save mine and that of my daughter." Esmé, who was holding tightly to Jerome's arm, looked down at her belly, and covered it lovingly with her hand. "Not to mention the life that was already beginning to grow inside me." Jerome blushed, embarrassed by the way Esmé always took the opportunity to boast about his act of heroism that fateful day at the Hotel Denouement. Still, he couldn't say he didn't appreciate it, and responded by kissing his wife on the forehead. Then he turned back - this time with less enthusiasm - to Klaus. "It's a shame about what happened to Justice Strauss in your world," Jerome said sadly, "as well as your parents. The first time I met Justice Strauss was when she spoke at the university, where I was taking classes on law to prepare for my book. I was surprised when I discovered she'd been acquainted with you and your sisters. The fact that we both bore extensive amounts of guilt for failing to help you was what opened up the doors of friendship for us. She's quite a bit older than me, and of course I never stopped loving Esmé, and so nothing romantic ever came of our relationship. But she was very kind to me, and I'll always consider her a dear friend. The last I heard, she returned to her home in the city following the fire." "We really should pay her a visit when we get home," Esmé said. "I knew her, too, when I was young and still living with Olaf in that dreadful house. She used to have me over to help her garden, and afterward she'd invite me inside for cookies and lemonade." @very Funky Disco: I suppose Emily could live in a dream world created by Beatrice's imagination. Something with lollipop trees and cotton candy clouds. Don't worry if you don't like the idea, though - I won't be offended.

"In our world," Klaus said. "Esme and Carmelita apparently left for France."
"It was really kind of your Nero to rescue you guys," Isadora said. "The Vice Principal Nero I knew only cared about himself and his violin, which he is terrible at."
