I'll try, CCC! I'm writing 5 fics right now along with school, so it's hard sometimes. I'll be sure to get another chapter up soon though! It's okay, take as long as you want, Sophie. You're writing 5 fics all at the same time? You must be hard-working.

This thread is slowly being pushed to page 2, so I might wake it up. Can you tell me the other 5 fics your working on? When will there be an update?

I'm writing this fic, my other aSoUE fic called 'Spellbound' which I think is on page 2, 2 Green Day fics on a site called Sullen Riot, and an original fic called 'Teenagers' which I've put on temporary hiatus to work on my other fics. And then there are those random brilliant ideas I get and write 1 chapter but can't get into the story or I will never finish anything. And about an update- hopefully this week, but I'm not making any promises since I have final exams coming up. Sorry about the delays, guys (although I'm much worse about other fics. There's one I haven't updated since November )

Just started reading your fic. The boy wearing the Avenged Sevenfold tee-shirt really drew me in.
Even though it is a bit anachronistic, if the fic takes place in 1998. Avenged Sevenfold did not release their first demo album until 1999. They then recorded another one in 2000, and then they recorded their first album in 2001.

Okay, I finished reading what you have, so far. My favourite character from your ficverse is officially Jake Squalor, because he likes Avenged Sevenfold. I think I was just starting to get into Avenged Sevenfold around the time you started writing this. Because of that, it's even more heartbreaking that he and Sunny were forcibly split apart. I do wish that Violet and Klaus were more open-minded, but I guess I can't really blame them. Especially when there it's obvious that Esme never changed - and, for all they know, she could be training her son to work against the VFD. I see that Carmelita never changed, either. Anyway, I can hardly wait to read more.

Over the months I've more fully developed my ficverse and head canons, and I decided that the series took place in 1985. So we can just pretend that a7x and any others I mentioned existed in 1998. my future fics will be more accurate now that I've got everything worked out in my mind. I really like a7x too. Synyster Gates is awesome. I'm glad you like the fic so far!

It's really a shame about the Rev's death. Actually, in my ficverse for my other fandom (Back to the Future), The Rev is still alive by 2015.
I don't know if you've seen Back to the Future - but, in Part II, Doc and Marty take a trip from 1985 to 2015 (and the movie was filmed in 1989). The future we see consists of things like flying cars, hoverboards, speech-recognizing devices, fusion power, and even overhaul rejuvenation surgery. In short, the future is obviously more advanced than what we have in "our" world - and, believe it or not, 2015 is now only three years away.
Anyway, in the BTTF Universe, The Rev is able to get advanced surgery for his heart condition - so, as a result, he doesn't meet a tragic death in December of 2009. That means the Nightmare album would be a bit different, and there actually is a version of the song Nightmare where The Rev plays the drums. In "our" world, I mean. Marty Jr is a fan of Avenged Sevenfold (along with Foo Fighters, Led Zeppelin, and his father's music), while Marlene prefers Lady Gaga.
Out of curiosity, what made you decide to set the events of ASOUE from 1985-1986?

So was Jake actually born before the events took place and before Esme married Jerome?

It seems like he would be, if he's the same age as Sunny.
I really don't envy Jake one bit. I'm so used to thinking of Esme and Carmelita turning good after the events, since that's what happened in the ficverses of Emma Squalor and Violet Marie - it seems strange to think that, even after many years, they're still as bad as they were in the series.

I guess Sophie could change the name of the band on Jake's shirt if she wants.

I'd be kinda sad if she did, though - since Avenged Sevenfold is my new favourite band.
Although, she could maybe change it to Foo Fighters. That's one of my other favourite bands - and they were still relatively new by 1998. The Colour and The Shape came out in 1997, and they had another album two years prior to that (which was mostly Dave Grohl's project).
Led Zeppelin would be awesome, too, of course - and he maybe would like them. He might prefer a newer band, though.

Sophie, I see you have your story set in Boston. Were you inspired by the movie?

Sophie, I see you have your story set in Boston. Were you inspired by the movie? A little, although in my ficverse the actual events took place in a different city which has no name. I just really like the setting of Boston so I thought I'd set my fic there. Also, this was my reasoning for choosing 1985: TBB came out in 1999, and I wanted to have given Lemony Snicket at least 10 years to research the Baudelaires' lives. I wanted it to occur after 1965 because I wanted it after the Civil Rights Movement. Then I figured the Baudelaire parents and their generation should have been about 30 when Violet was born, which 1975 at the latest. Then I decided that they would be about 20 or late teens during the Civil Rights Movement, and this gave me somewhere between 1979 and 1989 for the series. So I picked 85, since it was right smack in the middle.

In my ficverse, racism, sexism, and homophobia have never been much of a problem. People can be openly gay and nobody gives a damn.

I'm interested by the idea of Beatrice and co being thirty when Violet was born - I think most people make them quite a bit younger than that. But I don't know anything that directly counts against it. It would add force to the 'after all these years' in Lemony's telegram, if B's marriage and Violet's birth happened a long time after her breakup with Lemony, rather than just a couple of years after. (I think you can show that the breakup with L happened just a couple of years after they left school.)
That does mean that she's in her forties when she has Sunny, though, and that Kit must be even older when she has Beatrice Jr.
As for Jake's age - are we ever actually told he's in the same year as Sunny? I would have supposed he was born after the unfortunate events (like the original Emma Squalor, I believe) - if he was born before, why wasn't he around during the events of TEE?
