In this movie, Alan Rickman falls in love with a young redhead who's in love with a glasses-wearing asshole named Potter. The young redhead girl lives with her aunt Lily and Uncle Vernon.

You get the feeling they totally ripped off harry potter right?
about two years before the first book was published.

No Harry Potter ripped off An awfully big adventure featuring Alan Rickman.

Well, perhaps Rowling was ripping this film off. (Edit: Snap!)
(Though of course, even if she did borrow a few names from it, that's not really ripping off - if anything it's a tribute. As I have mentioned in other threads, there are recent books featuring a librarian-turned-crimefighter called Dewey, and a brilliant girl inventor called Violet. I don't think Handler is going to complain.)

Yeah I imagine most writers get their characters names from something or another. I wouldn't be surprised if she did with Uncle Vernon and Aunt Lily there. Who knows? p.s. i win hermes

Nah, if I followed that logic, then I'd have to say that The Canterbury Tales isn't worth reading because it's all ripped off from The Arabian Nights and The Decameron.

Eh, I don't think it's really plagiarism because she used the same names, hair color, and the theme of love.
If Harry's mom was actually Snape's daughter, then I'd be a little suspicious.
