It seemed Friday the thirteenth was indeed an accurate prediction as the new Lemony Snicket promotion is here. The subject line is "How can we stop him?" and the content of the email is this single image.

Thanks for posting this, Brunch. That almost concludes the Who/What/When/Where/Why/How pattern, doesn't it? We're just waiting on a What. Again the illustration is on graph paper, with the blue tint we've observed on the cover. I guess this will be the villain of the story; he looks suspicious enough.

I think it's quite plausible that he is the villain, if so this is the only email in which the subject line has related to the promotional material. Last weeks promotion related to the first one- does this relate to the Ellington Feint one? They both have people in them, and they seem to be drawn by the same person. Something about this man reminds me of a teacher.

If anything, I would suppose this was drawn by the same illustrator who brought us the maybe-it's-a-seahorse statue, perhaps-it's-frightened octopus, and could-it-be-a-clock bell, that is, those images drawn on graph paper. Unlike those, however, this image is less ambiguous. Note also it gives us no text, as did "Why would anyone want to steal this statue?" But yes, he has all the physical characteristics of your stock character villain, and this is reinforced by the wrong question.

I was actually kind of hoping that the villains would be the man with a beard but no hair and/or the woman with hair but no beard, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Oh well, he certainly does look villainous anyway.

This doesn't mean more villains can't make an appearance, just that the figure in the illustration will probably be a main focus point. The sinister duo themselves would be a lot younger, though, so if we do see them they'll likely be in a different setting.

I feel like they're older than Olaf. Not much older, but still older

He reminds me of Batman's buttler.

I feel like they're older than Olaf. Not much older, but still older One of them had an infant servant (so was presumably an adult) before the schism. If we put together indications from TBL and TPP (a dangerous thing to do, to be sure) Olaf must have been a child when the schism took place (since we know that Lemony was an infant then, and O can't be much older than him if they were in the same class at school). This does not fit perfectly with things we hear in earlier books, but seems to have been the plan DH settled on.

Wild speculation: As siblings in ASOUE seem to come in triplets, this fella could be the brother of the sinister duo who later disappeared? Judging from the villain's odd hairstyle, I imagine him to be the sort of villain used for comic relief; the type that tries to sound evil and cunning but messes everything up.

To me, he looks alot like a school teacher or principal. Perhaps he will be training the young VFD members (like Lemony) but will turn out to be a villain.

I thought that as well. It's something about the haircut the jacket and the tie, I think. Maybe some kind of evil headmaster?

He reminds me of VP Nero. Or maybe it could be the actual Principal, since Nero is only Vice Principal and if my memory serves, the REAL Principal is never mentioned.

Hmm... this seems to be the most disappointing mailout for me. One, it's too straight forward for my taste (I liked the ambiguity/mystery about the other questions), two, this seems to be the main villain in the upcoming novel..? A rather boringly clichéd appearance in comparison to the treacherously unique visage of Count Olaf. But I do hope that the mailouts won't stop after the final question. And I hope to find out soon "What" all of this is going to be about.
