It's as if the call is from the great unknown itself. Hmm, "It's for thee" it is forboding enough and evocative of death, but what would a call from the Great Unknown be? Is it an entity capable of communicating through telephone lines? That would be getting a bit near to pure fantasy. If we posit it, however, as a submarine, as has often been done, it might have a similarly grim crew. I suspect the Great Unknown's involvement in the series, if there is any, is to be considerably more mysterious than that, but it's a thought. But communications from mysterious individuals who aren't quite exposed within this book, forming an ongoing mystery, seems like a very real possibility.

I wonder if telephone messages can or will be intercepted through the course of the new book...

If so, it might indicate a change of tack for V.F.D.'s enemies at some point, considering that, in ASoUE, they were more interested in chopping down telephone lines to hinder communication. It's a strategy of obliteration rather than observation. It figures that, at an earlier point in time, they might be spying instead.

The last three were on Friday, Thursday, and Friday - and given that there are only two days left this week - then yes, today or tomorrow, I should think. Looking like tomorrow at this point, but you never know.
