What are some of your very favorite scenes from the entire Series of Unfortunate Events? I'm still in the process of rereading the books at the moment, so I might need to finish before I decide on one myself. What do the rest of you think? Which tragic events or tender moments had you thinking long after closing the book?

It's hard for me to latch onto specific moments; some of my favourite parts are much longer scenes or conversations. But if we want a short moment - ah, of course. The introduction of the sinister duo in TSS is one of the most chilling moments in the series, appropriately enough. Even the page layout assists in building up the tension of a dramatic moment, the page cutting off right after their first line of dialogue, and the subsequent page digressing, distancing us from them more and more and increasing the suspense.

I hope no one will shout me down for this, but I would say the moment when Ishmael talks about his life in TE- page 214 to 217- and the Baudelaires keep on suggesting characters from their lives, and it is revealed to be something else. It is that moment when you realize that there is a whole lot of misery and woe in the world out there, with each life brushing another, and each with the fragility of a mere soap bubble, with countless tales of treachery and evil filling the world so that one cannot learn all of it without coming to an end. It is also a chilling thing to read at twelve o'clock at night.

That was a favourite of mine too, somewheresafetosea. I also liked the bit in TSS when the Baudelaires were calling out for there parents, even though it was really sad. I think that was the only time I got teary during reading the series.

I can't really choose which one is my TOTAL favorite since the series is pretty big. But one of them that I can think of right now is when the Baudelaire's discover a third Denouement triplet, and Dewey explains to them all about his secret catalog.

I liked in TAA the description of the picnic the Baudelaires had with their parents once.

I like the scene in TPP where Lemony (we think) meets the Baudelaires, and they think about going with him - and then Mr Poe arrives, bringing them down to earth with a thud.

I remember being years younger and, for some reason, reading the parts where the Baudelaires ran laps to the point of exhaustion over and over again because I found something comforting about the torture process.
Now, however, I would say my favorite moment was Olaf's death. I was surprised how poignant I found the scene despite having spent the entire series wishing him gone.

I quite like the beginning of Chapter Two of TGG, with Widdershins shouting "aye"s and preprosterous instructions, and yes, I'd say that Olaf's death was one of my favourites, too. Another favourite scene of mine is the Baudelaire's discovery of the arboretum and the room under the apple tree.
Also, I'm surprised that no-one has mentioned the Quiglet scene on the frozen ledge. I thought that was a fan favourite.

Also, I'm surprised that no-one has mentioned the Quiglet scene on the frozen ledge. I thought that was a fan favourite. That scene with Violet and Quigley is quite sweet. It's also a nice move by Snicket to let them have a private moment without implying anything inappropriate. I haven't read The Slippery Slope in years... maybe I can go back to it sometime soon.
