During the month of April, I read only poetry. Graham Foust's Necessary Stranger has been my favourite so far, full of vigour and shadow.
...WOULD YOU TAKE TO A DESERT ISLAND?
William Maxwell's Time Will Darken It. Every time I read it I discover something new, and there is humour for the very dark and lonely nights on the island, plus melodrama and pathos for those parched high noons.
...FIRST GAVE YOU THE READING BUG?
That dark and mesmerising page in One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish by Dr Seuss: 'Look what we found/in the park/in the dark./We will take him home./We will call him Clark./He will live at our house./He will grow and grow./Will our mother like this?/We don't know.'
...LEFT YOU COLD?
Anything by Mark Twain. Don't get me started...
