Bear appeared at the Video Conference? So, what is he like? Is he Daniel Handler in disguise? He does not look like DH, but then if he were in disguise he wouldn't. (There are pictures of him on 667. Or at least there hav been, though possibly they have disappeared, as images on the internet tend to do. But in fairness, he doesn't look very like them either.) Actually, we are getting near the time that the awards are normally held, though there is no law that they have to be held at a particular time. Reba , have you any plans? We were discussing this in the hangout, before you arrived, I think, and I was saying that while a bit earlier it didn't seem there was enough activity to justify awards, the new liveliness that has come to the site means they would now make more sense. I can think of plausible nominees for most of the awards, though Best Artist might still be problematic. i don't think anyone should do the awards anymore, me least of all Any particular reason why?

We all know that DH could have put anyone to pretend to be Bear, so if you want you can keep believing it.

Any particular reason why? forums are dead bro Also, there's basically been no new Snicket content for over a year, and it looks like we still have another 1-2 to go minimum, before we get some. It'll be a long time before we get another large influx of new members or new content. We are entering a fallow period. With that said, I personally love these Awards and hope they never go away.

We have to stay alive until poison at breakfast and all its sequences are released. If we don't, who will? Even Daniel Handler doesn't really like Lemony Snicket ...

Any particular reason why? forums are dead bro No they aren't. They were a bit dead a few months ago, but now they have a new lease of life. As I said, there are plausible candidates for most awards. Also, there's basically been no new Snicket content for over a year, and it looks like we still have another 1-2 to go minimum, before we get some. It'll be a long time before we get another large influx of new members or new content. We are entering a fallow period. With that said, I personally love these Awards and hope they never go away. Well, there was a very long fallow period between ASOUE and ATWQ, and we still got lots of content and new members during that time - I joined then, so did Sherry Ann, Lemona, Invisible, Sophie, Bee, Pen... And there are active fandoms for things that haven't produced any original content for hundreds of years, like Sherlock Holmes or Jane Austen. (Yes, I know the actual dates for these works. You know what I mean.) Indeed, the awards began during that fallow period, in 2008. (Which I guess would make this year's the thirteenth.) It's one of the things which keeps the site going. If Bear doesn't want to do it, someone else can. I would happily volunteer to do it myself, but I would have to be a moderator, and I don't think Tragedy would allow that.

i don't mean this forum, i mean forums in general are dead as a type of community that people seek out on the internet. however much a very old forum like this may stumble on because of a few devoted folks, the general decline is not the fault of this individual forum and won't be prevented by putting on an awards show.

haven't forums in general been dead for many years, though? I feel like they've already been out of fashion when I joined in 2012. I don't think Hermes et al necessarily want to save the online message board as a platform, just to socialize with those last "few devoted folks" here. but yeah, I'm not sure there's enough people here to make another Darkies all too exciting, not to mention that not that much has happened in the last year. I also hope there'll be more folks around when Snicket's next book will come out, whenever that'll be.

I have already felt fulfilled by winning the two awards that I have already won in the last year ... In fact, in these last two years I have realized many impossible dreams related to ASOUE. Just being here, it seems like a dream to me ... Dark Avenue 667 was seen by me as a distant land, where the biggest ASOUE fans gathered on the internet to speak in English about ASOUE. It is a pity that I arrived here late ... It would be fun to have published theories at the same time that the books were published ... But I feel that I am known and recognized by you, and that is really very good. You are few for now, but just the fact that you are still here, prove that you are the best ASOUE fans out there. I would happily volunteer to do it myself, but I would have to be a moderator, and I don't think Tragedy would allow that. I think your wish has been granted. Then we will have Germies in 2020. Very appropriate.

It's unfortunate that 667 (and other unofficial Snicket sites) were removed from lemonysnicket.com. If I remember correctly from my Gruesome Greetings research, that's how almost everyone found the site. It doesn't even appear if one Googles "Lemony Snicket fan site," though maybe it would if you searched a particular ASOUE / ATWQ-related question.

Also: I'm not on the platform where these things are decided, but please like this message if you would be up for a Zoom tomorrow (Saturday) at the traditional hour of 7:00pm EDT / 8:00pm ART / 9:00am AEST / midnight GMT. If there's interest, I'll post a link.
