If you check Daniel Handler's facebook page (and possibly other social media, I don't have a twitter account), he's made a very interesting proposition to his fans: He is offering to send out books which he has read and enjoyed in 2015, 'plus assorted ephemera', for free to anyone who joins his new organisation. Membership, however, is very exclusive - in the first place, you need to find the form on his website. Most of the questions on the form is about proving you're noble, interesting and well-read. Basically, as I like to imagine it, DH is inviting us to audition for the real-life equivalent of the Volunteer Fire Department. Search for and find the application form at Danielhandler.com.

Huh. Announcement One, no less, so presumably there'll be more.

Found it. Took me...maybe 3 clicks?
Meh. I might join.

I would love to fill in the application form because i like filling in things and if it's from him it's probably fun, but i can't find it.

Do you reckon they'll accept an application from the UK? Huh. Announcement One, no less, so presumably there'll be more. Well, maybe, but there's a sub-heading "Announcement Two" lower down the picture. I would love to fill in the application form because i like filling in things and if it's from him it's probably fun, but i can't find it. One of the tweets underneath his announcement spoils the secret.

This is exciting! I really, really hope it's not just US only.
At least it's cool to have a Top 13 recent faovurite books list by DH.

I beg to whatever deity is out there that it's not US only. More specifically, that someone residing in Surrey, England might be able to participate.

You don't need to, but it might be polite.

I'm wondering whether there's a 'correct' sequence of answers - for instance, it's clear that the answers to 1 and 2 are 'True', and the answer to 8 is 'False'. Do you think we can assume that there's a right and a wrong answer to each of them?
I'm also wondering whether it's an advantage or a disadvantage that my favourite living poet is a Danish one whom DH has almost certainly never heard of.

All I did was put witty commentary on each of the answers after circling T/F and for poets I think it does not matter as long as they are alive. I think this is really more suggestions for poets for Handler to look up and meet then anything really

Light on the details, which is mostly for effect, but ugh, why isn't there anything about international applications? I guess I could just go ahead with a defiant "well, no one said I couldn't apply" but I'm wary. I've been burnt before. Huh. Announcement One, no less, so presumably there'll be more. Well, maybe, but there's a sub-heading "Announcement Two" lower down the picture. Oh yeah.

Theoretically, no, I don't think so (except for the first 3 Q's). But then again, there is probably a limited amount of sequences that are going to put you in favour of being accepted. I'm guessing that, like with most questionnaires, the parts where you have to write something are more important than the parts where you just tick a box. The evaluation of the statements, esp. the second half, seems to me like a way of customizing your package if you should be chosen. (Like to help decide which one of DH's fav books you would most likely enjoy.)
