The "Best Out of Context Quote" award goes to an out of context quote, like they are collected in this thread. All quotes from 2015 and 2016 can be nominated. For your nominations, please post the content of the quote, the person who quoted it, and the person who was quoted. Please post your nominations here or PM them to me. The quotes which have already been nominated are: "I really, really, really don't want a digital baby." (said by B. (Bee), quoted by Hermes ) "I just got off and it's still on." (said by Poe's Coats Host Toast (Terry Craig), quoted by penne (Pen)) "Because I want to see yours and show you mine. Also because I'm specifically curious to see the extent of Dante's after it was discussed" (said by A comet crashing into Earth (Comet), quoted by Cafe SalMONAlla ) "Kind of disappointed how one-dimensionally evil Pandora is turning out to be, ." (said by Linda Rhaldeen , quoted by Isadora Is a Door ) "i also enjoyed zortegus' pictures of his Beast..." (said by Reba , quoted by Esmé's meme is meh ) "oops I killed a guy" (said by soufflé, quoted by Linda Rhaldeen) "This girl in my class died" (said by @peppermince, quoted by Poe's Coats Host Toast (Terry Craig)) "Hermes is obvious but awesome." (said by Hermes, quoted by Cafe SalMONAlla (Lemona))

are you allowed to nominate yourself? because you were the one who quoted that in the thread, hermes. or are the quoters not the ones who receive this award? (wouldn't make sense otherwise imo)

I agree, otherwise people would probably start phrasing their posts to sound funny out-of-context intentionally, so they'll end up in the OOC thread, in order to win.
EDIT: I don't think there's anything wrong with nominating yourself, though, esp. in this category.

I assume that the original poster wouldn't be allowed to self-nominate, as then they could construct posts solely for out-of-context value and then nominate them; however, fan highlighting of potential value (whether of a quote or anything else) is really the whole point of the awards. I agree that there's a grey area here over who is the true "creator" of an out-of-context quote, but it's not like the award is going to go to whoever nominated the quote.
Edit: To clarify, I think the original poster shouldn't be able to self-nominate, but the original quoter should - but only if, as I understand it, the award goes to the poster rather than the quoter. (If the award is going to the quoter and not the poster, the poster should be able to nominate someone else's quote of their own post, but original quoters shouldn't be able to self-nominate.) Actually, I'm not sure if self-nomination is strictly speaking forbidden, but you never see anyone do it, so it might as well be.

I think the award should go for the person who found the out-of-context-quote, and no who actually said it. Frindle for: I just got off and it's still on.

I had assumed it was the actual author of the quote who got the award, not the quoter; in fact I expect it often to be the quoter who makes the nomination, since they are the one who spotted the quote's humorous potential. Bear in mind this is a one-off award, so there's no point creating intentionally funny quotes in order to win it.

I think both should get the award. And also quotes from after it was decided that this award exists shouldn't be allowed, because then people can make them intentionally (to be the quoted person) or search the whole forum for quotes now (to be the quoter).
Of course people can nominate themselves, like they can in every other category.

I nominated myself for most notorious last year and I won #notorious I agree with Anka that both quoter and poster should receive the award.

Moving on hastily to OOC quotes from this year: Lemona (quoter) and Comet (author) for: Because I want to see yours and show you mine. Also because I'm specifically curious to see the extent of Dante's after it was discussed Mister M (quoter) and Linda (author) for: Kind of disappointed how one-dimensionally evil Pandora is turning out to be, .

I thought that perhaps the nomination could go to the quote itself, being a random social occurrence for which nobody planned. Practically, though, I suppose that means the same as nominating poster and quoter both for it. =)
