To think, I came on here to send trip a PM saying 'Looks like there isn't that much Netflix News this month'.

OF ALL THE DAYS FOR ME TO BE HELPING OUT AT A BOOKSHOP AND THEREFORE WITHOUT INTERNET ALL DAY IT WOULD BE TODAY, WOULDN'T IT?? I love all the little references -- going to zoom in on that taxi as soon as I can (thanks to trip for spotting that it's a Lake Lachrymose taxi) -- and I think it's so clear that they've had such FUN with this (Very Flammable Dandelions. I mean, come on, that's brilliant.), which I think is really important and genuinely helps to make a production much better than if the whole thing felt like a chore. I really love Warburton's Snicket -- I think it fits the character very well. I can see what A comet crashing into Earth meant about him being too suave when one thinks of his often self-deprecating nature, but I always felt that Snicket embodies a mixture of self-deprecating and, conversely, a certain self-assured sense of style and intellect. So, yessssssss to Warburton!! AND NPH SOUNDED SO GOOD Monty Kensickle. Also I love the fact that Snicket mentions ennui simply because he defines ennui in TCC. I'm going to watch the trailer again ASAP (my parents are currently watching the television so I can't now because I've already played it twice and I don't want to disturb them but ugghhhh) to comb it for more references. ALSO -- the way Snicket acknowledges that it's a Netflix series (but then Olaf also seems to be kind of there -- or they're implying that NPH is also evil haha) just chimes perfectly with the way the books are of course written with a self-aware narrator constantly breaking the fourth wall and I just LOVE IT because it just draws us in and connects us to the show so that we're included in that world and I LOVE IT. I really like the way Snicket walks through the set and you see things from various stages of production, from various of the books. All in all I am EXCITED.

The one thing I am also super pleased about is how Neil Patrick Harris much like Jim Carrey is hamming it up and over acting. Because unfortunately that is what actors sometimes do no matter what situation.

I'm curious if, for the sake of the adaptation, whether the making of the TV series will be frequently referenced by Lemony Snicket in the same way that he discusses the struggles of writing ASOUE within the books. It would be great to see him arguing with producers about whether certain scenes are "appropriate" for viewers. I have thought a LOT about this, too. Like, is Warburton an ACTOR playing Lemony? Are we gonna see the "real" Lemony in the shadows somewhere, arguing with producers? Or will it be presented more like, Warburton is the REAL Lemony, and the things we're seeing are in his imagination, if that makes sense... Shows-within-shows can get head-trippy sometimes...hey there AHS: Roanoke...

That set design. It's fantastic, I'm so glad they chose Bo Welch for this. I can't help but love this design of Damocles Dock and the town, it looks so good. I was a little worried about the scope of this show and not being able to hold its own in comparison to the movie, but I worry no longer. NPH voice is pretty good, I was not sure what he would sound like and I'm very happy with the end result. http://instagram.com/p/BLJ1QFOgLsC Loving this too, Uncle Monty's house maybe?

I find Warburton's interpratation of Snicket interesting- similar to what violetbunfortunate said, he doesn't play the character as a self-pitying loner but instead kind of a droll, Rod Serling/Alfred Hitchock-like narrator. It's not quite how I imagine Snicket, but it could work under the right tone.
Care to elaborate on your thoughts, FFWF?

AAAAAH
well they're certainly trying - mostly successfully- to mimic Snicket's turns of phrase.

Interesting. People seemed to have like NPH's voice, whereas this is the only time that i have now had doubt about him, hmm...

Come to think of it, I was eithout internet the whole weekend. I guess I was lucky with the timing!
The eye insignia is interesting. It's so intense, compared to the version I'm used to from the books (the TCC one, not the TUA one). I'd call that one condescending, but this just seems manic - more representative of the fire-starting side, perhaps. Either way, I love this. I still experience a thrill of disbelief every now and again when I remind myself that they're even making this. And now there's even video and promotional graphics to prove it!

Not really very happy with NPH's voice but I'll reserve judgment there.
Yay fourth wall breaking obviously. Possibly not yay for, y'know, exposing his face but oh well.

Possibly not yay for, y'know, exposing his face but oh well. I'm surprised no-one else on 667 has brought this up. It seems to be the top comment on YouTube and the social media posts sharing the video. Personally I don't mind that they showed his face, and I think it's probably likely that they'll do it in the show quite often when he appears, but maybe this is a controversial opinion.

Care to elaborate on your thoughts, FFWF? Presenting it as a "trailer" rather than a "teaser" led me to expect a little more than we actually got, which was basically nothing. Additionally, while this might seem an odd thing to say about a Snicket-related production, the presentation in practice crossed the narrow line for me between "breaking the fourth wall" and "actually just behind-the-scenes footage." In short, I didn't see Lemony Snicket talking about the show, I saw Patrick Warburton talking about the show. Big difference. Per gliquey's point above, I'm also not amazingly happy about actually seeing Snicket's face - although, if they stick with the fourth-wall-breaking aspect and have him at some point claim to merely be an actor playing Snicket, that would help. I recognise that hiding Snicket's face all the time would make some shots more difficult, but I also think that, at the same time, working under a constraint like that might also make it easier. I do see that there's a difference in how you want to approach the character if you want him to be on-screen more than you want him to narrate, though; if you aren't fixing him in people's minds as "the narrator," it becomes slightly more disorientating to have some random guy in a suit with his face out of shot showing up all over the place. One last point: It didn't occur to me until this morning to check, but the "Lemony Snicket" signature in the title logo is based on the actual signature from the books. The "S" has been redone to make it more visible, but all the other letters are written in the same style, just a bit more cleaned-up. It's a nice touch.
