My name is Tanya, I'm a 20-year-old and a Russian art student. English isn't my first language, so I apologize in advance if some of the stuff I write isn't comprehensible.
Have been lurking here for quite some time and finally decided to join, excitement for the Netflix series was way too strong! Also thought I might add to the discussion about different translations of the books. (And maybe post some fanart as well)
When I was 6 my grandmother was REALLY into these books and advised me to read them as well. I've been a fan of the books until I was 11 (didn't manage to read The Penultimate Peril and The End cause couldn't get them). Needless to say, the series inluenced my worldview and taste in media very heavily. I even got into drawing in the first place cause I loved redrawing the illustrations. Rediscovered ASOUE a couple years ago when the TV adaptation was announced, and reread them in both Russian and English. It was quite shocking to find out how enjoyable they are to adults, as well as to realize how much stuff in them went over my head as a child. In general can't stress how much I LOVE everything about this series. The writing style is just amazing. And the story is so absurd yet, sadly, relatable at the same time. There's nothing quite like it.
Besides ASOUE, I'm a fan of A LOT of things and my obsessions tend to change heavily over time. Right now I'm completely obsessed with David Lynch and 20th century art (especially German expressionism). I also like Japanese mystery games like Ace Attorney, Danganronpa and Zero Escape. My favorite book period is Master&Margarita, and favorite movie is, at the moment, Fargo. Also love animation in all shapes and forms.
You can find my (mostly ASOUE at the moment) blog on Tumblr (http://the-baudelaire-fortune.tumblr.com/) More fanart will (hopefully) be posted on that blog in the future, if I get less anxious about it :'D
Very excited about joining this community! Especially considering how much material for discussion we'll get in the following months. (P.S sorry for the possible sloppiness with using the forum, don't have much experience with forums in general)
