Is Count Olaf based on Ed Wood?

I think Lemony may have taken inspiration from Ed Wood when creating Olaf.

For one, Ed Wood was a legendarily bad director, while Olaf is a legendarily bad actor. And more importantly, Ed Wood, being a transvestite, liked to dress as his female alter ego, SHIRLEY! Could Olaf's persona in "The Miserable Mill" be based on this?

Very cool idea. If nothing else, Ed Wood being the source for the Shirley name sounds especially plausible.
