Why is ASOUE Season 2 being released on March 30th, rather than on Friday, April the 13th?
Well, you might as well ask "Why is this release date different from all other release dates?"
That's right! March 30th is the beginning of Passover. And for Snicket, Jewish tradition takes precedence over the non-Jewish number 13 superstition.

Good connection! I hadn't thought of that!
March 30th is also Good Friday, so they may poke fun at something soooo unfortunate being released on "Good" Friday.

That's a brilliant theory teslak20. When I first heard the announcement, I was confused, though kind of glad, that season 2 was going to be released 2 weeks earlier than anticipated. But now that you mention, I remember reading that Handler had stated that the Baudelaires were Jewish.

But now that you mention, I remember reading that Handler had stated that the Baudelaires were Jewish. Well I think the key thing is that Handler is Jewish, and ASOUE is filled with lots of references of rabbis, bat mitzvahs etc. ATWQ's structure and final book title is even based on The Four Questions asked at a Passover seder. Whether the Baudelaires are Jewish or not - I think probably Handler has commented on this, but I'm not sure it was an explicit "yes" - is something I view as less unimportant than the undertones of Jewish culture in the series.

According to Handler, the Baudelaires are Jewish and so is almost everyone else in the universe.

Where does he say this? I know he has said that the Baudelaires are symbolically Jewish, but I don't know of any statement about anyone else (except Pip and Squeak, who are apparently Unitarians).
