I'm very intrigued to know how they're selecting fan art. Thanks for the update, gothicarchiesfan! This is very exciting.

Actually, the title structure reminds me of File Under: Suspicious Incidents, until of course they inserted a "13" into that title and promptly evaporated its original sense. Speak of the Devil: Both U.S. and U.K. listings for this book now give it the much more lucid and elegant title of Read Something Else: Collected Dubious Wit and Wisdom. Thanks for clearing that up, HarperCollins. Amazon is now listing the book's name as Read Something Else: Collected & Dubious Wit & Wisdom of Lemony Snicket.

...This sounds like the sort of titling decision which might be informed by the cover design, so I'll wait and see on that. Well, at least, I hope it's informed by the cover design. Two ampersands?
Edit: Briefly forgot that I didn't post this thread, and changed the thread title. I've changed it back, but not without having first established that the book's full title is literally too long for the subject line...

We now have a cover and a new release date -the sixteenth of April- courtesy of the HarperCollins website.

I like the idea of the cover illustration in relation to the book title (although perhaps it's a tad simplistic), but the execution (i.e. visual style) of this does not look Snicket-y to me... more like it's for some self-help book or something.

I suspect that "like a self-help book" is more or less what they're going for - but I agree that the style doesn't sit well with me, purely as a matter of execution. The internal photographs in the original edition were based on a similar concept, and they were acceptable; though of course, we have no idea if they'll still be included.

Is this an example of the fan art which was alluded to?

I wouldn't imagine so; it'd be rather odd if the book cover was anything other than something they commissioned a professional artist to produce.
