Hi all,
So – new here (obviously). I'm also rather new to the whole Lemony Snicket fandom thingy. I read the first two books after the movie came out, so probably around '04-'05, but for some strange reason, I never got further back then.
About half a year ago, I started reading the book series for my children (age 6 and 9) only to discover a few books in, that the lazy Danish **** of a book publisher decided to stop translating the books after The Vile Village. Obviously, I got mad as hell. Wrote the publisher a few letters trying to push for them to pick up the series again – with the new Netflix fame and all – but they seemed to care as much for finishing their projects and showing their customers some decency, as Count Olaf does for the wellbeing of orphans.
So, still mad as hell, I decided; screw them! My kids love those stories. They need to hear the ending. I'll bloody translate the books myself!
I should not have done that.
I started on The Hostile Hospital back in June and just finished it now. (Truth be told, I could be working faster, but I only take a few pages here and there, when work allows me.) Being new to translating, I, of course, made the classical error of just starting, instead of reading the book through first. Again; I should not have done that. Furthermore, The Hostile Hospital is probably (i.e., hopefully!) the worst book to translate. The whole Library of Records thing just messed me up so bad.
Oh well, I read The Carnivorous Carnival and have now started translating that, as well. (Wish me luck!)
Anyway, enough rambling for now. Long story short. Searching the web for people talking about translations of ASoUE (look at me, using initialisms already) brought me to this forum.
Happy to be here.
