I always thought there was emphasis on the "nald" part of Fernald.

I’m binge watching this show a second time, and I thought the name was pronounced “Fer-narld” not “Fer-nalld”, if you know what I mean. It was good to see him working alongside Sunny, finding Fiona and on a mission to find his Stepfather.

I mean, it's basically a mashup of "Fernand" and "Donald", so since the emphasis is on the "Fern" in "Fernand" and on the "Don" in "Donald", it only makes sense the first syllable would be the one emphasized in the portmanteau.
