Excellent
tk ! How did you find out?
oh my god it took me so long to figure out lol
initially i tried narrowing down the places that had animals (because you gave out that clue, jean lucio - Q: "are the animals here nice?"), and i thought of lachrymose lake (leeches), calligary carnival (lions), and even the island in the end (sheep, i believe?). i even tried to recall if there was any mention of any animals in TGG because you said the place is suitable for fungi to grow (mind you, my memory of the what/who/where/when/why of ASOUE is not the strongest lol).
but then i thought out of all the places i'd thought of, only calligary carnival made sense, because jean lucio said you can go there via motor vehicle (Q: "What method of transport do you use to get here?"). you need a boat to go to curdled cave/lachrymose lake, and a submarine to go to the grotto below anwhistle aquatics, so that stumped me for a bit. although to be fair, can you categorise boats and submarines as "motor vehicles"? i guess you could?? but that's a weird way to describe it, and i'm sure jean lucio would've said something more suitable to describe boats/submarines than "motor vehicle."
then jean lucio asked if the place was fun (Q: "Do you think this place is fun?") - and that's easy to answer, because the book series is called A Series of Unfortunate Events, not A Series of Insanely Fun Events, so I just said no.
so anyway, i just stuck to my theories. that just leaves calligary carnival. but then
FileneNGottlin said they see depressing neutral colours around - not what i expected, because i expected them to say, "i see lots of colours here!" because it's a carnival. but they didn't, so i was stuck again.
they also said they smelled boring books and questionable cooking - i thought of the island in the end, because of the coconut cordial, but then there were no books in the end (if i recalled correctly) other than the one the baudelaire parents wrote. and that book wasn't boring.
anyway, i asked the weather question because that could help me narrow down a lot - if jean lucio described anything remotely like the lake or the grotto or the island, then i'd get my answer. but he said it's humid and it's excellent for fungi to grow and i was like "? ? ? so we ARE under anwhistle aquatics??" because that's the only place i could think of where any fungi of any sort were mentioned.
but then filenengottlin said their accommodations were excellent - that confused me even more lol because nowhere in ASOUE is any place "excellent."
the horizon question stumped me as well, but only until filenengottlin answered their last question - "if i wanted to look at them, i could."
at first i thought of the trial that the baudelaires had in TPP, where everyone was blindfolded. so anyone could peak through their blindfolds to look at the baudelaires, right? this also answers the "excellent accommodations" situation. but then it doesn't fit with jean lucio's hints of "animals" and "fungi" - i don't recall there being any animals at the hotel, or the fungi growing there. also i'd expect to see a lot of colours, not just boring ones, if i were at a hotel.
then i looked back at filenengottlin's answer, "i
don't want to look at them" - it's not "i
can't look at them" as the case may be in TPP (forced to wear blindfold). so i thought, okay filenengonttlin is actually someone who dislikes the baudelaires, who has excellent accommodations, in a place that you can reach via motor vehicle. and this is where i realised jean lucio is referring to the SORE program in TAA, that you'd get tired if you go outside to see the horizon. then i remembered the crabs and the fungi in the orphan shack! so only then did i realise that i must be in prufrock prep!
this was a lot of fun! but i guess if you were to play with someone who remembers all the facts in ASOUE (unlike me), it'd be a bit tougher. i guess if that's the case, the fun in the game would be more in the spy trying to convince everyone else that they're not the spy, instead of the spy grasping and straws and making wrong guesses multiple times like me lol
thanks for the hints though, jean lucio! they were extremely helpful haha
