I'm going on a four-day visit to Den Haag in the Netherlands on Tuesday. Also I learned earlier that the Netherlands have the weakest European cinema history I can think of at the moment. On the other hand, Vermeer is from Den Haag/Delft, so that's a big cultural plus for them. you "learned" that? lol. not many countries had a guy like Verhoeven. it's true the dutch are mostly just good for daubin', but i think that about Spain too.

yeah I learned it by looking up famous dutch movies (specifically Holland rather than Belgium). i think the only notable movie Verhoeven did in his home country was The 4th Man... which is not particularly well known, even by fans. (edit: apparently his early film Turkish Delight also made a splash.) I think the only decent movies I recognized were Borgman and The Vanishing (and two great older short films, Rain and Glas).
spain is defo superior, they have Luis Bunuel, Pere Portabella, and Pedro Almodóvar, off the top of my head. and i don't even like spain because of their colonialist and inquisitionist past.

well, Bunuel made almost nothing in Spain, if you want to go that route. and I don’t “like” any country, if you want to go that route. FYI Verhoeven did go back to the Netherlands. the movie “Black Book” is cool. I haven’t been able to see his early Dutch stuff but I’ve heard good things about it. he was already working with BEAST Jan de Bont in those days. ah yes, Joris Ivens had a long and beautiful career, mostly not in Nederland. it’s natural for anyone to move to the international industries, anyway there are so many countries in that dang’d continent of course there are plenty that have no industry whatsoever, like um Estonia or Slovenia or somethin. I agree it is curious that a country of such enormous significance in art history should have so little cinema.

The Sagrada Familia and other Gaudi-designed structures around, like a park, are obvious hot spots in Barcelona, but they also are very cool.
There's also an impressive Salvador Dalí museum in Figueres, which is very close to Barcelona.

i am kindly requesting recommendations for things to do and see in seville, lisbon, and barcelona. Lisbon is genuinely my favourite city in mainland Europe, obviously torre de Belém and The bridge are big ones, make sure you eat pastel de nata and bacalhau. Also go to Sintra for the day - didn't make it when I was there and I regret it.
