In The Ersatz Elevator, Esme lists what's in or out. And she ends with "Pinstripe suits are in, those horrible clothes you are wearing are out." And yet, she waits until what is likely several days before she buys them the pinstripe suits, meaning the Baudelaires are wearing the same clothing that is supposed to be out. Shouldn't she have bought them on the day of their arrival?
