so do you all practice some form of physical exercise? which one and how often?
i’ve been entirely sedentary for the past few years which is bad for my health and bad for my mental health and also bad for my self-esteem but i’m addicted to it !!! i don’t have too many problems w/ my body and self-image (i’m thin and tall and awkward which is fine) but i do sometimes feel insecure around muscular men & it seems more and more of my friends are getting into working out
so this week after going back and forth about it a lot i actually started to do yoga by myself following along w/ instructions from an app on my phone. this is honestly ideal for me bc it’s really low investment — meaning i don’t have to pay for a gym or work out at a gym or even walk a couple blocks to a gym which are things that have previously put me off exercise entirely. the gym is a really scary hypermasculine and uninviting place to me & i much prefer doing my thing away from the public view
i did this cardio-oriented yoga course which was more of a workout than i expected — there’s a lot of movements that resemble the plank position (absolute hell) — but it felt good to be doing something. though i actually couldn’t get into many of the positions bc i have no flexibility in my body whatsoever. this made me consider trying a different course oriented around boosting flexibility & maybe downloading a second app for actual pushups and whatnot
anyway that’s my journey 🤍 tell me urs

Least sporty kid ever, but when I was about 20 I found running, one of my close friends took me out on a run, and I pretty much fell in love with the sport.
Fast forward 3 years to now, I'm running consistently 30 miles a week, loving the sport, doing a long run every weekend, got some PRs I'm proud of under my belt and started training for a marathon earlier this year.
I really thought I was eating enough though and doing well to fuel the amount of activity I was doing, but apparently not. I had to pull out of my marathon recently due to reoccurring injuries and the fact that I haven't had a period in 3 months (and had irregular cycles for about a year prior, in part due stress and some stupid eating habits in covid lol).
Have currently cut my mileage in half, and doing very low intensity stuff, while desperately trying to get out of an energy deficit and start having a normal cycle again. I've got a running coach, and am still loving running- in fact my main motivation to get better right now is just so I can feel strong and training properly again. I don't think I have an aesthetics goals with my exercise- I love to run for lots of reasons (the mental health aspect being a big one), and I really, really want to complete a marathon one day, but I know I need to get healthy first.
Other than that, I do strength in the gym like 1-2 times a week too, I don't love it, I just do it because it helps make you a better runner and reduces injury risk. I sometimes cycle/walk a lot for commuting/lifestyle.

I'm biking everywhere since the pandemic started so I usually do 10 km minimum everyday, and I consider that enough exercise to not feel bad about not doing anything.
I've been meaning to start going to the gym for a long time but I honestly don't find it an enjoyable or at least comfortable space. These last months I've decided to start swimming again and I'm determined to do that, now I only have to buy a swimsuit and a cap so I'll probably start next month.

I like to run, swim, and play tennis. I keep meaning to do yoga but am never able to find the time.

Honestly mostly just walking, but I'm always ready to play a game or whatever whenever the opportunity arrives and I'm high energy when it comes to spontaneous stuff like that.
I really want to get walking more though; it's been really difficult for a few months finding the time because my dog is very old and she needs a lot of care, which can be exhausting, especially when it's the middle of the night -- and of course we used to take her on long walks but now we can't and it's all just a bit exhausting and makes it difficult to keep up a good schedule with exercise. But I'm trying to balance things out to get back to exercising more.

I do Irish dancing classes once a week for 2 hours, and sometimes I practice at home but I don't really have enough space for that.
I also do some random youtube workouts several times a week. Except for the kickboxing ones I don't really enjoy them at all, I just do that so I can eat lots of crappy food without feeling bad and a bit to balance sitting down all day at work.
I'm always impressed when people do running because to me it's the worst feeling in the world. When I'm experiencing any pain or discomfort, like the hygienist scraping on my teeth or having a stomach bug, I always think "It's all okay, it's not as bad as running". But I enjoy long fast walks.

“alright boss, how we gonna make this punk talk? waterboard him? pull his fingernails out?” “Nope… even worse… we’re gonna make him jog around the block”

I have never in my life not even once gone running for the sake of running.
Like, ever heard of conserving your energy, people? smh

Running is fun, sometimes if you do it enough you transcend the pain and enter simply, a higher plane, what can I say, not bragging..

My mom tells me the same, but I think it's a runners' conspiracy.

I like running only sporadically, and only the sort of running when it's like you're a little child and it's just pure joy, running flat out across a field or along a beach or through the woods or something. It's just about going as fast as possible, not about exercise or anything like that. Running when you have to do it sensibly and pace yourself is just sheer torture.

I already hated running when I was a child. In one of the random youtube workouts I did they said "Remember when you were a child and all you wanted to do was to run and jump around", and I was like "No, I was the child who liked the rainy days where nobody told me to go and play outside"
