i want to know if you have tattoos and if so please share a picture if you feel comfortable doing so

as i’ve mentioned in a different thread i got my first one like a few months ago (see below) and it must be lonely out there so i’m thinking about what my next one should be

i can only think of tattoo ideas that reference art that is important to me? so right now i’m considering something “it’s such a beautiful day”-related — a really beautiful animated film by don hertzfeldt that Skelly Craig actually introduced me to and it’s become one of my all time favorites. i’ve seen it so many times and i’m always weeping by the end of it, which is not something i do very often

sort of relatedly i’m also considering a slaughterhouse five tat — i think don hertzfeldt must pull a lot from vonnegut, the themes and tone of their work are really similar at times. idk if a slaughterhouse five tattoo would be too tacky (there’s a lot of “everthing was beautiful and nothing hurt” tats on google images), the book is not as well known here in brazil tho

My tattoo-getting energy is just random spontenous stuff on holiday. Thinking about getting a little raspberry or some other fruit somewhere. No meaning, just fun

i don't have any tattoos, but I've considered it at least twice. but i always end up thinking it's tacky in the end.

there's also something kim kardashian - of all people - said that i always remember: "you don't put a bumper sticker on a mercedes" lol

i do like your tat, though, so I might still come up with a good idea someday

i like this way of thinking — i’m not as spontaneous about tattoos bc i worry i might regret them, but ultimately i want to have them because i think they look cool lol whatever meaning i ascribe to them comes after that

this honestly surprises me, i took you for a guy who might have a bunch of tattoos, but i get what u mean as well! that kim k line doesn’t resonate with me tho, i have no kind of reverence towards my body that would keep me from modifying it as i like lol

i feel the same as Terence, though i think tattoos are generally less tacky when they have less significance. i can understand it as an extreme form of bodily ornament, like a jewelry or a clothing. in which case it seems best to make a purely aesthetic choice in what you get, for example if there is a tattoo artist whose style you really like, or just certain patterns or motifs you like. obviously this still requires some taste, as some of the tackiest tats are in this category, like "an eagle with a sword" or "a dragon with breasts."

but if it's just a quote or a replication of some sort, and the value lies entirely in what it's referencing, that's the peak of tacky, to me. the fashion equivalent would be wearing "merch."

not that there's anything wrong with wearing merch, lol. but even if someone was wearing a shirt with my favorite band's name on it, and we got talking and became great friends because i saw the shirt, i would still think that person dressed tacky.

i don’t think wearing merch is inherently tacky, depends on the merch i guess. same goes for tattoos, but to each their own

i guess u find my tattoo the peak of tacky which is a totally cool thing to say to which i take no offense

nah, I like the drawing a lot, it’s quite tasteful. still kind of tacky. but it’s not like it matters what anyone thinks of your tattoo once you’ve got it. and I was mainly outlining what would go into my own decision making, were I to get a tattoo. the biggest thing stopping me, beyond all the questions of taste, is actually the pain.

i got my first one on my 17th birthday in amsterdam, i snuck out on a school trip lol it was spontaneous, i decided the night before because the legal age was 16, on a train from germany at 8pm and got it the next day at midday. i tried to bully some of my classmates to get one, but all but one chickened out. a girl wanted one on her ribs, but they didn’t allow any tattoos that involved a minor having to remove their clothes lol fair enough so she didn’t.

my comrade was this kid i’d been in class with since year 7 but wasn’t particularly close to, but now we’re super good friends so i guess it works out. he has several tats now, one of which i designed ! he never told his parents about the first one though which is funny now that he has quite a few visible ones and still lives at home.

to justify the spontaneity the “meaning” as to why i got an A because it’s my sister and dads first and last initial, as well as getting it in amsterdam for a quadruple entendre. some people think it looks like a V, my dad says it’s my arrow for heroin …

I've been thinking about getting a tattoo for a long time, but I think I'll get bored of it sooner than later so that's what stopped me so far.

I also agree the chances of it ending up being tacky are too high. I've been trying to find a design and a placement I like for a long time.

For years I considered gettting this ASOUE illustration tattooed but couldn't decide where to get it.

You should get it tattooed on your palm, so when you open your hand, there's another, smaller, hand inside it.

I have the Firefly logo from The Last of Us on my left arm. Her name is Frieda, she's very outgoing and feisty. And I have a steampunk style pegasus on my back, in tribute to the inventor Louis Le Prince and as a cover up of a scar. His name is Gus. He's more shy and timid, he doesn't say or get out much. My mum suggested an old-fashioned pocket watch, which I'm considering. I would love to have a quote tattoo, but I can't decide on the quote.
