My fam always made it clear it was a fun-intentioned charade. When I was very little my grandpa dressed up as Santa and I was confused why he did that more than anything. I think I would've been scared if it was a stranger who dressed up as Santa and came to our home.

Every non-incredibly cynical child will believe what their parents tell them. Of course I believed Santa existed, why would they lie?

My parents always told us that it's actually them bringing the presents and Santa isn't real, but we were all happy to pretend anyway. If anything it was probably more fun, because I would probably have been scared of him otherwise.
I was quite shocked to learn that in the UK it's quite normal for 8 or 9 year olds to believe in Santa, because in Germany if children still believe in him when they are 5 or 6 people wonder if they are somehow stupid. But then in Germany the presents are opened in the evening of Christmas Eve, so they arrive while kids are awake, so it is less believable. I also heard a conversation at work between parents who were really upset that their children didn't believe in Santa anymore, which I found really weird. I would be proud of my children for growing up and figuring it out.

My fam always made it clear it was a fun-intentioned charade. Yep. Pretty much that. We would leave a mince pie and beer out for him. And it was almost always suggested that my mum would eat the pie and my dad drank the beer.
