i am not one to participate in student politics because i am weary of the popularity contest / cv stacking / performatism of it all, but my friend is running for student representative council and asked me to be on her ticket.
my home university is rather corrupt (for lack of a better word), making over one billion dollars in surplus in 2021 and is simultaneously cutting arts and social science subjects, raising the prices of student accommodation, as well as other horrid capitalist shenanigans like partnering with weapons manufacturers for science students to do work placement with.
as someone who began their degree in political science and subsequently transferred out of it because i found the discipline and the people to be unbearable, i am not doing any public campaigning (refused to have my name and photo in the paper), but still want to support my friend and her policies.
i. did/does your university have lots of student politics ? did you participate ?
ii. how do you feel about it ? iii. do you believe that grassroots student groups can make meaningful institutional change ?

I don't really involve myself in student politics at my university but I was in student government in high school.
