Also, it's interesting he wrote about his controversies. I suppose that means the watermelon scandal and maybe some other things? You always kind of expect celebrities to skip stuff like that in their memoirs, so that's interesting. I was fascinated by the things he chose to discuss and the things he didn’t. For example, he actually doesn’t talk about the watermelon scandal but does address the backlash he has faced about his comments at book events. One thing I didn’t mention is his lengthy discussion (rant?) about Roald Dahl and the idea/absurdity of being “problematic”. This appears later on in the book, alongside other somewhat abstract thoughts about art and what we do with it.

Heh. Handler strikes me as a Dahl fan, considering how "comically horrible things happen to small children" is a major theme in both's work. I'm curious what his argument against problematicness is. I suppose part of it might be him worrying that he'll be declared problematic for WatermelonGate.

I suppose part of it might be him worrying that he'll be declared problematic for WatermelonGate. For what it’s worth, he did apologize and make a statement at the time about how, well, problematic his comment was. His discussion here is more about the consequences of “canceling” someone completely by banning/censoring their books, even if, in the case of Dahl, they may not be great people.

Very stream of consciousness. Similar to PFB in that way.

The PFB style of writing reflects who DH is today. That's how he wants to write because that's how his mind works these days. Nothing against it, but I wanted a story written by Lemony in the vein of asoue and ATWQ someday.

Not in the least, but I’m incredibly flattered that you would even suggest such a thing.
