I always wondered why she was wearing her dress in all of the pictures. Maybe there is a reason the illustrator got it wrong? But I dont imagine what could have happened. I mean, he reads the books Im sure, so he should know, especially since he drew her with her hospital gown at the end of book 8.

As it was said before, perhaps Brett just got careless, or he did his illustrations based on a previous draft of the story in which we learn that Violet got her dress back.

I'm just guessing that Helquist didn't read the exact same version of the book we got to. It's mostly a convenient way to explain this.
