ok people i have reason to believe that a) there were volunteers in the HQs when it was burned down b) Ike is alive
reasonings: 'and none of the baudelaires would ever meet some of the organizations most beloved volunteers, including the mechanical instructor CM Kornbluth and Dr Isaac Anwhistle, whom everyone called Ike, and the brave volunteer who tossed the sugar bowl out the kitchen window so it would not be destroyed in the blaze, and watched it float down one of the tributaries of the stricken stream'
tell me what u think

hmm...definitely plausible. that would bring up the question of why ike would fake is own death...

i really question whether the man and woman with hair and beard were being entirely truthful when they were talking to olaf. i don't know why they would lie about that, but the green smoke thing was really suspicious, and they proved that they have their own agenda with the net thing.

They would have their own agenda, they are smarter than their younger sibling. And I doubt that there were volunteers in the valley... except for the ex-volunteers, and the neophytes...

I don't know if his death is the easy kind to fake. It's relatively easy to have your car crash into a lake and survive by getting oxygen from the tires, but leading people to believe that you were devoured by leaches seems almost impossible. Incidentally, I think that the guy on page 201 of LSUA is Ike.

(I love your Alias reference!)
Yeah. Can't fake that...
Maybe. It might also be from when Lemony was waiting for Gustav-
But I highly doubt it.

there's somethin' about that in one of these strings...
i think the conclusion was that josephine would have been too scared to actually watch him be devoured.
i never thought of THEM being siblings...that would make sense, although i've always thought of olaf as an only child. there seem to be a lot of trios.

You know, these books are getting to the point where there's just too much to ponder.

ya know, theres also the complex that handler impies that ppl are dead, but they arn't actually. LIke quigley- duncan & isadora SAID he was dead, but lemony/handler never said he died. Same with Ike- Josephine only SAID that Ike was eaten. And Josephine was never procaimed dead- just that the fisherman found her life jackets. SHe could have lied about eating the banana.
