something i noticed ... p 71, TSS, "until the baudelaire's journey, the passage way had not been used for many year, ever since mone of my comrades used it in the construction of a submarine." we know the bauds are in a sub in the next book...

it's possible that they could end up in a submarine

But how? For V.F.D. training?

We only know they end up in a submarine because of Lemony's note, and that did not at all explain why they were in the sub. But that sub may well be at the end of the Stricken Stream. What body of water do you suppose the Stricken Stream flows into? The Suffering Sea? Botulism Bay? Blighted Bayou?

i think briny beach...there's a thread about that somewhere around here. It would tie in with something he said in the BB about violet visiting briny beach for the third time in her life, which implies that there would be another or two. I think it might be a little far-fetched to say that he planned that all along, but it would make a nice tie in, wouldn't it?

I wouldn't call that a problem-that's whats good about the books.

true. It makes the books more interesting. Anyway, I think it said that the river ended up in a sea or ocean, so my guess is briny beach. but we will just have to wait

i agree, in the last quartain in the 11th stanza of the garden of proseperine, when lemony translated it, it said something... um lemme get my book -
that even the weariest river winds somewhere safe to sea
means something about the stricken stream carrying the baudes to the last safe place
ohh. it says "where all the volunteers, INCLUDING QUIGLEY QUAGMIRE, could gather... i think that means that quigly is and knows that he is already a volunteer.
this could be lake lachrymose (does anyone know if it has a source, ie: a tributary of the stricken stream?) or it could be the ocean off briny beach

Well, I know that the Baudelaires return to Briny Beach in book 13, but we cant throw out suggestions like the fact that thats where they end up. I think it leads to a new place, but eventually, the Baudelaires do end up at Briny Beach later on.
And I think that Handler has planned everything all along. thats what writers do. Olaf wouldnt have a tatoo on his eye for no reason, and I seriously cant think of a reason why the cause of the fire wasnt explained in the first place, except that a bad VFD member (most likely Olaf) burned it down.
When reading these books, just look closer and youll see all the little details will make one big one. Trust me.

hmmm.... *looks at map on p 151 inTUA* darn. there is the grim river on the map and it leads from lachrymose to the ocean by briny beach, but it doesnt go up near the hinterlands. i am guessing that they will end up somewhere new, but in the last book they will end up near where they started.

i read somewhere in a DH interview yesterday that ALL of the theatre troupe had eye tattoos and were as obsessed with eyes as olaf... to me this is similar to "mr poe carefully took off his hat" or whatever that phrase is...
