Sorry!! Didn't check this thread forever!!! Let's see... Book 1 I hardly have any... Book two.. Ah!! Book two!! I have so many theories on Book number two!! Let’s start off with one stretching to book ten. I think that Montgomery Montgomery is a part of V.F.D, or rather was. Why you may ask? The tunnel under his home. How did Jacques know about it? Anyway, there’s more than one way he’s part of it. The tunnels under the homes are, in my opinion, escape routes in case of a conflagration (fire). The Montgomery household had vicious snakes, or at least most were, and the route may have been led there so they volunteers may have been safe. It never explained that Montgomery may have had a scar, but it’s possible. The Baudelaires, in my opinion again, were giant V.F.D goers and almost every single one, stretching out very far, were part of the organization. Another theory on TRR. Let’s see… Dr. Montgomery said that his partner’s name was Gustav. Well, after Gustav got sick, I think he was sick, Stephano came. Well, Gustav would be Gustav Sebald. The V.F.D people use the Sebald Code. Dr. Gustav Sebald created the Sebald code!! That also leads me to one other theory of Dr. Sebald being a herpetologist. By Dr., as in Dr. Montgomery, he can be!! In TSS it talks of the secret passageway between the Quagmire Manor and the home of the late Dr. Montgomery. It also talks of what the tunnels did, but you can wait. Now, Montgomery said that they were going to watch Zombies in the Snow, and if you look at the list of movies written by Dr. Sebald in the Autobiography it says that he wrote that. I also think that Montgomery Montgomery thought that the children already knew about V.F.D, but just to make sure he was going to make them watch the movie. It could also be that he just wanted them to get a coded message. But I think the message was intended to be sent to Dr. Montgomery. Could be others. (If you check in the Biography pages 61-65 the coded message is evident) Could this new assistant have been Stephano? I can’t make it out right now. But if the real assistant was in the snowman… and maybe Dr. Montgomery forgot the spaces in the Sebald code. This was further explained in the meeting of the V.F.D’s (Biography pages 33-46) with R saying (the nine year old R) that maybe a volunteer could forget that there are eight uncoded words between each coded word instead of ten. That may have been the case. Maybe after the schism Montgomery forgot about the code and didn’t remember the thing entirely. But he may have helped Sebald create it and that might have been impossible. I think I may have concluded most of my theories on Dr. Montgomery. Also with my other theory of Dr. Montgomery thinking the children knew about V.F.D already then wouldn’t the children be at the V.F.D headquarters instead? I’m trying to figure it out.. As we continue with the books we’ll probably have it explained further. Book Three: I don’t have as many theories on number three. Aunt Josephine, in my opinion, is not part of V.F.D. But then again, why else would she be afraid of all of these things? Maybe after serving for V.F.D and the schism having come she didn’t want to have anything to do with it. If the waiter at the Anxious Clown is part of V.F.D then… Well, maybe Aunt Josephine’s home was once part of V.F.D. An older headquarters? I have to check my biography. No. In the statement that one of the people made, I didn’t memorize their name, it said nothing about that, but then it said something about a building with two towers. That must be Olaf’s old house!! A foggy neighborhood though, I don’t know. I’m not so sure. In the biography it talks about, in Lemony’s critic column, about the leading actress could whistle Mozart’s Fourteenth Symphony. Someone on www.quiddtich.com said that in Book Three the orphans said to Aunt Josephine that their mother could whistle this particular tune… It also said in the column that the actress was Lemony’s fiancée. Well, if this is true then all the facts lead to Beatrice being the Baudelaire mother!! Who is the father though?? We should find out soon enough. It’s not Lemony, although he could have been, but some other man that she ran off with. Esme` and other theories on the Baudelaire Marriage will continue later on in TEE. I don’t have much for the Wide Window. But in the Autobiography it talks of the Prospero, the ferry, being used for Volunteers. See? Lake Lachrymose and the town is just a V.F.D headquarters town. Those tunnels may have also been led to the Anxious Clown… Unless the food is so terrible because it is led by V.F.D. members too busy to cook good food so they can send out their messages. Once again, this is my theory not a fact.
