I wonder why Jacques was and not Lemony or I wonder if the whole Snicket family including K are researching the Baude's. Or could it have something to do with Beatrice. Like both L and J liking her or something.

I think that VFD got splintered and its members got seperated and don't really know what the other members are doing. Lemony would have been a few steps behind where the Baudelaires actually were, so maybe Jacques was just quicker than him. I didn't think that he was actually researching the Baudelaires though...I thought he'd sort of mistakenly wandered into town, looking for a VFD hideout, or to talk to Hector or something. Did it say in the book that he was researching them?

In TSS, Quigley said that Jacques showed him a picture of the Baudelaires on Damocles Dock (from TWW).
