In The Slippery Slope, Quigley leadst Violet and Klaus up the Vertical Flame Diversion. Quigley says there used to be a pole there. After that, Lemony says that the pole was removed by one of his comrades to be used in the construction of a SUBMARINE. The grim grotto? submarine? I looked for someone who posted a thread like this, I couldn't find one. Don't get mad if someone has already discovered this and I just didn't know.

I remember that, and I agree about the Grim Grotto connection. The ruined submarine was probably a VFD sanctuary, which OFD destroyed. Long ago, VFDers needed a fireproof place, so they built the submarine, using that pole. But somehow OFD destroyed the submarine, or someone or something did. Anyway, VFD was left with a ruined sub in a grim grotto. They looked for safe places, fleeing to remote hideouts. Now, the only sanctuary in an unquiet world is Hotel Denoument.
