I never noticed that, but I did notice that "The Little Snicket Lad" is sung to the tune of "The Wreck of the Hesperus." Lemony acknowledges this fact, saying that the tune is for "a well-known hymn of naval disaster"

It is. I've even played the music on the piano.
I've never sung the Volunteers Fighting Disease song to to same tune as The Little Snicket Lad. But then again, I don't sing the Little Snicket Lad to the tune of Row Row Row Your Boat either.

Maybe I'll go make a midi of "The Little Snicket Lad," just for something random to do.

celinra.50megs.com/midi.htmlIf you scroll down on that page a little, you can listen to the midi I made of The Little Snicket Lad. I may make another version later, which will split up the notes when the book puts more than one syllable to a note (I hope that made sense). Would anyone happen to have the lyrics to the Volunteers Fighting Disease song? Then we could see if they go along with the same tune.

I thought the tune to "The Little Snicket Lad" was to the tune of "Row, Row, Row Your Boat"... Thanks for clearing that up; I know little about music. It's pretty funny that Snicket seemed to be referring to "Row, Row, Row Your Boat" as a song of naval disaster. That's just the way he thinks.

i do have the lyrics: We are Volunteers Fighting Disease, And we're cheerful all day long. If someone said that we were sad, That person would be wrong
We visit people who are sick, And try to make them smile, Even if their noses bleed, Or they cough up bile.
Tra la la, Fiddle dee dee, Hope you get well soon. Ho ho ho, hee hee hee, Have a heart-shaped balloon.
We visit people who are ill, And try to make them laugh, Even when the doctor says He must saw them in half.
We sing and sing all night and all day, And then we sing some more. We sing to boys with broken bones And girls whose throats are sore.
Tra la la, Fiddle dee dee, Hope you get well soon. Ho ho ho, hee hee hee, Have a heart-shaped balloon.
We sing to men with measles, And women with the flu, And if you breathe in deadly germs, We'll probably sing to you.
Tra la la, Fiddle dee dee, Hope you get well soon. Ho ho ho, hee hee hee, Have a heart-shaped balloon.
Hope that helps
