Just a thought, who do you think is the mysterious friend who sends them the telegram in TGG?

'an alarming message from a lost friend....'
Quigley is the only person who fits that, as the others do not fit as 'lost', except for the 'ballon trio'. which are three people, not just one friend anyway.

'an alarming message from a lost friend....' Quigley is the only person who fits that, as the others do not fit as 'lost', except for the 'ballon trio'. which are three people, not just one friend anyway. Maybe the message is from just one of these people, who are both lost and friendly. However, I'm pretty sure that the message is from a Quagmire, just not sure which.

I think Quigley would fit the part best. It seems like it would be from him. But, if it's alarming....it might be Isadora, Duncan, and Hector.

Captured? Possibly, but by whom? Maybe Olaf found him before making it to the Grotto, and put Quigley in a cage somewhere. We'll have to wait and see.

Boy I would hate to have to stay in a cage. But do you realise that lost can also be a friend who is no longer with them?

maybe its alarming in a whole different way. Maybe the tributary led Quigly to the last safe place, and that was alarming to the Bauds.

Boy I would hate to have to stay in a cage. But do you realise that lost can also be a friend who is no longer with them? What do you mean by "no longer with them"? Obviously the friend in question will not be physically with the Baudelaires, but "no longer with us" is a common euphemism for "dead". So, could it be someone who isn't really dead but was thought to be?

This reminds me of Midnight for Charlie Bone when Gabriel reads his dad's tie and finds out that Charlie's dad was thought to be dead but was really lost.

well I think its hector and duncan and isadora because its an alarming message but maybe its justice strauss with bad news like they are supposed to go to court or something worse because on lemonysnicket.com it says many people have the same initials which can lead to much injustice

hmm... I do believe it's Duncan, Isadora, and Hector because I like them and want to hear news of them. They could use a carrier crow to send them a message. Maybe the menacing two people caught up to them and attacked them somehow...

Well I think its from Quigly because he really is the only one who realy fits it, but as I said it could be Justice as well as she is lost to them as she is not 'with them at this current moment.

I think the balloon trio is much more likely than justice strauss since I don't think the bauds really considered her a friend...
