I agree with what somebody said earlier- the characters became too developed. I liked the old style characters, nice and 2D (as they put it). It suddenly seemed alot more modern too. Before we sort of given the sense it was some time ago, whereas some points and language in the book suggest otherwise. It was as if Snicket had decided to try and make it appeal to more people...

I also disliked the way we were thrown a whole load of information about VFD. It felt like he'd thought "Oh no there are only three left and I haven't revealed ANYTHING! I better start doing it now!"...
