It's 199 days now, and we still don't.
Maybe we will by the 150-day mark. If not that, then we logically should have it when there are 100 days left.

Well with 199 days to go.... hmmmm. Do you think that with Book 13 Snicket will force all the major bookselling websites to not reveal the title till a week before?

My source at Harper-Collins, who wouldn't give me much information, led me to believe that they are really waiting to reveal anything. I think they may just wait until the actual release date.

Blast. Why must they torture us? Oh well. To take the evil way, I think you should interrogate your source until he/she/it/Daniel tells! *goes insane*

That won't work. Then her source will become tired and annoyed with her and give even less information if that's even possible. And she'd probably stop responding and where would we be then?

Thanks, Jacques. I've said that before and people can't understand why I don't badger this source more.

Waiting to reveal it until the actual release date doesn't seem like a wise move on the publisher's part. If people don't know the title, they can't order it early(at least, I think they wouldn't be able to. Could they order it as "A Series of Unfortunate Events: Book the Twelvth"?)
198 days.

I'm not so sure. It adds to the suspense(though if they follow the trend of releasing the 4th chapter they're pretty much going to have to) But I think it'd be quite easy to preorder it as "A Series of Unfortunate Events Book the Twelfth"

Why couldn't they keep it a secret? The series has enough following now that I don't think fans would be turned off. I think it would only build the suspense.
As for pre-orders, both Barnes & Noble and Amazon will let your pre-order the book. It's listed as just Book the 12th.
I'll have to go reread the e-mails from my source, but she was very vague and wouldn't reveal anything. But she is the Director of Publicity, so she must have the information or can get it when it's available. I'm going to wait a little more and then I'll try again to get information.

197 days.
Should we change this to 'the pre-countdown thread'?
The suspense is killing me. Why are they waiting to release the info? What has Handler got to gain from it?

197 days. Should we change this to 'the pre-countdown thread'? The suspense is killing me. Why are they waiting to release the info? What has Handler got to gain from it? You just told us the answer. If you are getting killed, already thinking about a countdown 197 days beforehand, and wondering why on earth he doesn't release the information, then his mission is accomplished. If, on top of what happens in the book, you are also eagerly wanting the cover, the title itself and basic information about the book that is usually released you're going to buy that book as fast as possible which is what they want. People dying of suspense and buying tons of books in the first few weeks. Because good sales in the first few weeks will help publicity which will eventually make even more people buy the books etc...

I went back over my H-C e-mails. Here is a transcript of the exchange between me and my source.
Have you heard anything about what the title will be? Will be a secret til the end!!!
Does that mean you can't tell me because it hasn't been officially announced yet, or will it not be announced until the book is released?
Can’t say….
Is there anything you CAN say?
Just to look for the book on 10/18. Sorry I have to be so cryptic.
Thanks anyway. If there is ever any information that you are allowed to share, please think of me. I'm a HUGE fan who can't wait!
I will. Until then...it's a mystery!"
I think I might e-mail her again soon, looking for information. I have another request for her anyway. I'll be sure to keep you all posted.
(By the way, it is now 190 days!)

Thanks for the information(if not entirely informative, the conversation was at least an interesting read.) We're lucky to have a contact in the publishing industry.
190 days? These last 10 days have taken quite a long time, but maybe that's just me.
