Also, I'm glad to see that the sugarbowl has an appropriate VFD name: "the Vessel For Disaccharides"

I just finished the book about an hour ago and i loved everything about it. It was definitly my favorite book so far.
also i dont know if anybody said that but something that stuck out to me was that Dewey and KIt were both 4 when the schism happened. I just found that a little weird.

I also found them being the same age a bit strange. There's also "E-F-G" with the triplets. Another band of triplets. I love reunions like this where bunches of the old characters in a series unite again, too bad we didn't get to see more of them... I particularly liked Hal and Charles.

*Page 27: …Laundromats, opium dens and geodesic domes…“Opium dens” made me laugh. Edgar Allan Poe was an opium user, right? Yes, and I think Charles Baudelaire was, too. And here's some information on geodesic domes: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geodesic_domeThe merchandise is really cool; I haven't been able to get any promotional items. I'd like that alarm clock. Does it go "wrong, wrong, wrong" when it chimes? That'd be cool. VFD has indeed become a lot more chaotic; they seem to have declined over time.

im surprised that Handler put opium den in the books, thats kind of not appropriate for a children's book.

Mark, I don't think that most children would know what opium is; it's like an in-joke for people who know the history of Baudelaire and Poe. Hm...I haven't checked if the alarm does anything out of the ordinary. I'll have to check.

For me, I was wondering why Handler would mention the reason that Kit was pregnant other than to show her relationship with Dewey. Therefore, I think that this pregnancy has some importance. What significance could this have? At first, although ridiculously, I thought that Kit was maybe Lemony's mother, but then I remembered a few crucial counterpoints that completely disproved this theory, so...
Will it turn out in a Star Wars fashion and the son/daughter of Kit Snicket shall bring "balance to V.F.D" (as far-fetched as it seems) or will he/she be an ordinary person that won't affect the rest of the story? Just a couple of thoughts.

If there are crucial events that take place years after the current books, Kit's child will probably figure into them. I wonder if he/she will be born in Book 13. Probably not, if that book follows the pattern of the last few and takes place over just a couple of days, although there might be an epilogue of sorts about the "years later" events.

Will we actually see Kit's baby though? If we assume (something we shouldn't actually do when dealing with the words "Lemony" and "Snicket") that we pick up a few days or months later in Book Thirteen, will Kit and the late Dewey's baby even be born? Was there any mention of how pregnant Kit was? Sorry for all these questions - it's my first post and if I've done anything wrong, please tell me and I'll edit it. Thank you.

Speaking of triplets when Dewey said that triplets ran in his family I was wondering whether it was possible he was related to the Quagmires.

He could be yes. VFD families are often interrelated. And that brings me to wonder. Kit may not be having a child. She may be having twins, wait have we even seen any twins in the books? Triplets. It runs in Dewey's family...

I did a double take when I saw the phrase "opium dens" and then laughed.

I found the part about small mercies as proof that Daniel Handler reads fan sites such as 667. I remember posting in a thread devoted to the annoyance Olaf's laugh caused through TGG...
I know the Baudelaire parents murdered Olaf's parents, which gives Olaf a reason to have some connection to them (other than the fact they are distant cousins). But, how old was Olaf when his parents were murdered? His parents were murdered when the Baudelaire children were alive...all of the children, including Sunny...Therefore, they were murdered with in the past two years or so. So, Olaf's evil behaviour can't be blamed on becoming an orphan at a young age, because Olaf, and I hope I'm correct in assuming this, was an adult when his parents were murdered.
His parents' death really linked him to the Baudelaires, but somehow it made me feel more distant about the connection to the Baudelaires and Lemony. You would think, if they had been related, or were at one point considering being related (if Beatrice was the Baudelaire mother), Kit would have mentioned something...
I hated it that Dewey died. I know we had only just met him, but it tore me up when I read that the Baudelaires began to cry about him.
About TMIC10 (the man in chapter 10)...It's Lemony. No doubt in my mind. Which makes me sad because now he might not show up in B13.
OMG SIR/CHARLES IS/WAS BACK.
I loved the bits with Mrs. Bass and the blond wig. Leaves a funny image in my mind.
And, that person's mother.
And, the name of the Baudelaire father!

I was re-reading book 9 at the time that this came out, so I read book 12, then went back to book 9, and saw this on page 147 (of book 9). Look at the picture in the Daily Punctilo. Look familiar? Looks very similar to the chapter 10 taxi driver. Also, the word SNICKET is below it. It even looks a bit like he has a cigarette.
I was dissapointed to hear no mention to the strange question mark from book eleven... That really intrigued me, and I wanted to learn more. I loved the 'not born yesterday' part, and this was definitly the darkest, saddest, less childish, and definitly best book so far.
