Why? Why make a movie out of such good books? Look what happened to Harry Potter! The books were good, then the movie came, as well as a whole load of merchindise and then the quality of the writing went down tons. I say just leave the books alone! This is what happens when you make movies out of good books. They become nothign but commercial. I am very mad.............

Because good books can be made into movies that take in a lot of money at the box office. Don't underestimate the lure of cash: money can't buy happiness, but it sure pays for a lot of other things. If the movie turns out well, then everyone will enjoy it. If it's awful, at least we readers will still have the books.

I agree Lydia!! Actually, I thought they did a good job with Harry Potter, and there was a lot of merchandising even before it hit the screen, but that's beside the point.
Look at Tuck Everlasting! It's a great book, but Disney's movie was awful. Or The Jungle Book, which was written by Rudyard Kipling. Lord of the Rings wasn't horrible, but they left out some neccessary parts. Sometimes it just shouldn't be done, and I agree, this is one of those times.
