Theres enough subtext between Violet and Duncan to conclude they liked each other before Quigley showed up. All of which has a perfectly feasible and logical explanation other than the one you've come to.

Maybe, but I kinda like the explanation I've come to.

I don't like Quigley OR Duncan but I like rebutting these kinds of points. I think within the context of the series, Violet's affection for Quigley has a lot more support to it. Duncan just kind of held her hand during Nero's horrible violin concert (I'd want someone to hold my hand, too, just to show that I wasn't slowly becoming numb and dying), whereas Quigley helped save her life through a huge mountain range, led her to the VFD headquarters, and they had some private time on a ledge. I hate people assuming that the private time was something romantic when it might not have been, so that could go both ways. Quigley remains an infinitely more helpful character than Duncan. (The only helpful thing Duncan really could have done was give them his notebook, but that got speared. The thought that counts, huh?)
Carmelita Spats is a one-book character that reentered the series in SS for what appeared to be no relevant reason. Any unique role she might have had (like a mini-Esmé, which is a dumb and entirely unneccessary role anyway!) could have been filled easily by other characters, like Colette. It would have been interesting to see Colette's turn to the DARK SIDE. In short, I hate Carmelita, she should die.

I chose Mr. Poe, hes a total drag! Name one thing he's done to help the Baudelaires. Hold their money? No, If I were them I'd be glad to keep the money! ;D And plus he's the noe who sent them to Count Olaf in the first place... what a poser.. but if i were to change it I would say Carmelita... i mean come on, I think all of us know shes not a fairy princess veternarian or whatever... and CLEARLY 'gorgous' does not begin with the letter 'm'... shes so spoiled and stupid... SHES THE CAKESNIFFER!!

Mr. Poe is useless because all he does is help find a gardian for the Baudelaires. He doesn't help them when they need him.

1. Your a newb and command little respect 2. No need to shout 3. You overused smileys 4. You double posted, for which the moderators will punish you 5. You revived this thread 6. You are pointing out the obvious by saying you like Quigley when it is clear by your name that you like him. So no need to shout, overuse smileys, revive threads and double post to tell us 7. All of the above 8. Quigley DOES rule

I really don't hate any character in the book series, but there are a few that annoy me very much.
I'll start at the top:
Mr. Poe Yes, for the obvious reasons. While I can understand that the first time the Baudelaires come to him with their concern he dissmisses it becasue they could indeed be wrong. Although after that I would think he would beging to listen to the children a little more, especially when they hit the nail on the head all but one time (and that was in the case of the very fancy dolies). So becasue he is wrapped up in his job he can't take a moment to really care for the Baudelaires when they need him the most.
Aunt Josephine The reason she gets under my skin is not due to her childish fears of everything, but due to the fact that she was read to give away the life of the children to save her own. That and she was so wrapped up in correct grammer she didn't stop to listen. The reason I can't hate her is the same of the Baudelaires, while she wasn't being a good gaurdian she still was their gaudrdian and she had been very kind to them.
Charles He annoyed me becasue of his naivity and the fact that he wouldn't stand up to Boss. It aggrivated me so badly. That is what aggrivates me about most of the adult characters in these books, they never stop to listen.
Nero Obviously, he was so obbessed with himself that he knew he was God and there was no way he could be wrong.
Jerome This maybe be the only character that I hate. I think if you told him to walk off a cliff he would do so simply to avoid arguing about it. He left the Baudelaires for a diffrent reason than each of the pervious guardians, becasue he wasn't brave enough. He wasn't brave enough to love and care for them while trying to help them locate their friends. So instead he walks out of their life and lets them fall into more missery. His character is the worst.
The VFD elders They are just annoy with their contradictory rules.
The New Troupe They whined a lot, it irritated me becasue the things that made them "freaks" really weren't freakish at all, but very cool.
Bruce >.>;; xylaphone (sp)
I can't really go into detail about "main" characters becasue that that is their job, to annoy you (I am talking about the villans XD)
As for disliking, any of the tripplets or Fiona I don't. I love everyone of them. I think each of them added something special to the books and the only thing I would hate was if they weren't there.

I voted Count Olaf, he is the most disgusting person known to mankind, then theres his girlfriend, Esme. I dont like that Kevin either, my teacher is just like him but she doesn't call herself a freak!!!

I honestly don't like Aunt Josephine. I wanted to kick her during most of TWW. Someone with such irrational fears shouldn't be volunteering to raise three children. She was also willing to put her AND the Baudlerliare's well-being behind her fears.
Which is also why I don't like Hector. He could have done at least something to help the Bauderlaire's when they were being accused of murder
