WARNING: AVOID BURDENSOME BOOKS
In the coming weeks, it is entirely possible, and arguably probable, that people will obtain early copies of The End and that some of those people will post spoilers about the book’s contents, details of the book that you or I will regret not having found out for ourselves by reading the book if we happen to see them. The best way to avoid getting spoiled is to avoid the Burdensome Books category until you obtain your own copies of The End . While there will be rules in place governing where spoilers can and cannot be posted (see below), individuals often do not notice or deliberately ignore the rules. So, if you don’t want to get spoiled, AVOID BURDENSOME BOOKS.
Timeline of Threads
THE END:
Wednesday, August 16: The spoiler rules thread is posted.
Saturday, September 30: The Official The End Spoiler Thread is posted, the only place where spoilers found in pre-release copies of the books can be posted and discussed.
Thursday, October 12: Official The End Discussion Thread is posted, the only place where the newly-released book can be discussed for the moment; Official The End Spoiler Thread is Locked.
Saturday, October 14: Threads containing spoilers can be posted in the The End board, so long as they are spoiler-tagged (see below), The Odd ASoUE Real Life Coincidence Thread may have spoiler-related coincidences posted once the thread has been spoiler-tagged (more details below)
Friday, October 20: Threads containing spoilers can be posted in any BBooks board so long as they are spoiler-tagged; threads in the The End board do not need spoiler-tagging.
Friday, October 27: Spoiler threads can be posted anywhere without spoiler-tagging; Spoiler Rules Thread unstickied.
Note: The dates when spoiler-tagged threads and free spoiler threads can be posted may be brought forward depending upon the perceived forum climate, but if this is the case then this thread will be updated to reflect that.

Spoiler-Tagging: Rules and Guidelines
Spoiler-tagging is when the word “
” (preferably retaining the square brackets) is added to a thread’s subject line (a.k.a. the thread’s “topic” when it is posted) when that thread contains spoilers. Spoiler tags should obscure any spoiler actually in the subject line itself, so that people seeing the thread do not get spoiled.
Examples of how to correctly use spoiler tags:
Beatrice turns out to be the hook-handed man! – NO
Beatrice turns out to be the hook-handed man!

Failing to correctly mark your thread during the periods when spoiler tags are required will be punished (see below) and the thread will be deleted or have its subject line modified (as circumstances warrant).
Spoiled-tagged threads are permitted/required in:
For THE END:
1. The End Board after Saturday, October 14 until Friday, October 20.
2. Other Burdensome Books boards after Friday, October 20 until Friday, October 27..
3. The Odd ASoUE Real Life Coincidence Thread will be spoiler-tagged on Saturday, October 14 and spoiler-related coincidences may be posted there, but a post containing spoilers must also be tagged as a spoiler within and preceding the text until Friday, October 27.
Remember, do not post any threads containing spoilers, tagged or not, before the given dates.
Note: If spoilers are posted in a thread after its first post by somebody who is not the author, the author will not be punished for failing to spoiler-tag their thread (although if they are able to do so after the spoilers are posted, they should do so if moderators have not yet dealt with the spoilers and the thread).
What to do if you want to post pre-release spoilers before the Official Spoiler Thread has been posted
If you obtain spoilers about The End from early copies and want to post about them on 667 rather than waiting for the Official Spoiler thread to be posted on Saturday, September 30 for The End, you should DO:
PM SnicketFires (link), and/or Gigi (link) with a subject line of “Spoiler Thread needed” (or something similar and appropriate). Include in your PM a request for the Official Spoiler Thread to be posted due to your early spoilers (for the moderators to be sure of what you want). You may, if you so wish, include details of where you found the spoilers (early copy, a website which obtained an early copy, etc.), but be sure to observe the DO NOTs.
DO NOT:
Punishments
If you do not follow the rules presented in this spoiler thread, then for spoiling other people or putting them in danger of being spoiled, you will be punished. The crimes, and their corresponding punishments, are as follows:
Posting spoilers outside of the Official Spoiler Thread before Friday, October 13 (for The End): One strike. Thread deleted.
Note: May be reduced to a warning if correctly-used spoiler tags are present, if the spoiler is minor, or if you can PM the moderator a very convincing argument as to why your punishment should be reduced.
Posting spoilers in boards where they are forbidden after Friday, October 13 (for The End) without a spoiler tag: One strike/warning. Thread deleted OR subject line edited, spoiler tag added, thread moved.
Note: Strikes may be given depending on how big a detail the spoiler is or if you are seen to be deliberately disobeying the rules rather than not being aware of them (although this is not an excuse).
Posting spoilers in boards where they are forbidden (after Friday, October 13 for The End) with a spoiler tag: Warning/one strike. Thread deleted or moved.
Note: Strikes may be given depending on if you are seen to be deliberately disobeying the rules rather than not being aware of them (although this is not an excuse).
Inappropriate use of spoiler tags (i.e., use which still reveals the spoiler): Possible warning, subject line edited.
Note: Possibility of warnings depends on similar circumstances as given in previous notes.
