This thread is for examining the little details in the Potter books, some of which are red herrings and mean more that you think at first glance.
I was just looking through Chamber of Secrets and noticed that Murtle wore glasses, and had been teased by Olive Hornby before she died. She was teased because of her glasses. When Murtle saw the basilisks eyes it quite possibly would have been through her glasses. Would a basilisk still kill you if you were looking through glasses? Colin Creevy didn't die when he looked through the lense of his camera.
Uh..yeah.
And isn't it extreme irony that Bill Weasley could very well become a victim of male pattern baldness?

That may be true.

on page 804 of the order of the phoenix, there is this quote: "as both of them stared at the place wher it had broken, apalled by what had happened, a pearly-white fighre with hugely magnified eyes rose into the air, [glow=red,2,300]unnoticed by any but them[/glow]. Harry could see its mouth moving, but in all the crashes and screams and yells surrounding them, not one work of the prophecy could [glow=red,2,300]he[/glow] hear"

But also, I would jam them angrily back on to go and tell someone off for being in the wrong bathroom, but maybe she didn't bother. But maybe that's why she had them off in the first place.

Probably.....I didn't notice that. Only stuff like when in GoF, When Potter is telling Dumbledore about voldemort and all that yak, Dumbledore grins or smiles a little when Potter goes to the part about Voldemort cutting his arm.

Yeah, I thought a lot about that one too. The only thing I could think of about how Dumbledore would have a right to smile there, was this. (It's kinda like the series finale of Star Trek Voyager, if anyone saw that.) Anyway, what if Voldemort couldn't handle love? Then, the love from Harry's blood coursing through his veins would kind of destroy Voldemort from the inside out, would it not?
Just a thought. Maybe.

I don't think that love is nice all it does is taking up space in your heart....

Mebbe Dumbledore just sot-of-smiles at everything- like a nervous twitch. Heh. Or maybe he was thinking, "At least Harry's not dead."
Er, anyroad . . .

That part in GoF where you guys said Dumbledore was smiling, he wasn't smiling, but it said something like, "there was something like a glimmer of triumph in his eyes, but then when harry looked again, it was gone".
Harry was telling Dumbledore about how Voldemort could now touch him. Perhaps the flicker of triumph could be because there are other boundaries/spells Voldemort needs to cross to get to Harry. Or maybe because Voldemort cannot yet touch Dumbledore without getting hurt... maybe

There isn't really any character like that in Asoue? Is there? They are pretty much all alone.

maybe that was almost a "pride in your own students" thing. Voldemort was a very great and terrible wizard, and you must find some sort of admiration in what he could do. I doubt that's what it is, but it's a guess. Another thing (that's probably only been discussed 3000 times) is the boy in the park that dudley and his friends were teasing, Evans. Rowling definitely made a point of that name when she used it in that chapter and then had a character scream the name in huge capital letters loads of times in a later chapter, reffering to lily evans. Maybe that's a distant relative of harry's. He could be related only through marriage, so not considered for a caretaker for harry. Like lily's brother's wife that got divorced and had another son with the old last name or something.

If you have ever read 1 (or was it 2) J.K. explains to us what a muggleborn, halfblood, and pureblood is her explanation is (not actual words):
Muggleborn: A witch or wizard who's parents are both muggle.
Halfblood: A witch or wizard who has one muggle parent and one magic parent.
Pureblood: A witch or wizard who's parents are both magic.
But at the Book 5 (I think) Dumbeldore say that Voldemort choose Harry instead of Neville (sorry spoilers) because he was a halfblood, but since Harry's parents are both magic, wouldn't that make him a pureblood?
