Blase Zabini was only mentioned once, wasn't it? What's the big deal about it?

He's in lots of fanfics, at any rate... I think Dean deserves more recognition in both the books and movies... it was mentioned in one of the books that he was artistic, and that interested me... I'd like to see more of him around

Blaise is in a lot of fanfics? Humm, that probably explains why I've never read any. I was just wondering why JK would Sort a kid in Harry's year into Slytherin and then never mention him again, as Slytherins get almost as much notice as Gryffindors. So, basically, my question was, "Where did he go?"

Ever here the phrase "stock characters"? A lot of kids are sorted and never heard from again, just to add to the obok. There are stock characters (Blaise, etc), upper class stock characters (stock characters with lines) (Dean, Justin, etc) secondary characters (Dobby, etc) middle class secondary (Sirius, etc) uppest class secondary (Hermione, etc) and THE main character.

Well, yes, I have heard of stock characters, of course. I'm just one of those people who likes to think that they have lives, too. (Yes, I do feel sad when the extras die in movies.)

You know in the fifth book, when they are looking at the thestrals, and only Harry, Neville, and a skinny slytherin boy could see them. Personally, I would like to think that that slytherin boy is Blaise, just so he has some character to him. He is definately a forgotten hero. Probably not a stock character, though. Something about him makes me think he will play a bigger role in future books. Rowling VERY RARELY just puts something in for nothing or just to fill up space.

But sometimes she DOES. I suppose the qull Hermione got at the friggin' quill store in OotP will have some magical link to Voldemort...Sometimes authors need to fill up space, and sometimes the rabid fans jump all over the scene like maggots on meat.

True. People will freak out over a doorknob, if she mentions one.

Exactly. Sometimes people just seem to want to believe that everything has meaning/purpose/that JKR would never, under any circumstances mess up.
She's just a writer, she'll have plot holes and filler things.
Where is Blaise mentioned, anyway? I know I read about them quite a bit in fan fics, but I can't for the life of me think of where this person came from. Meh.

As far as I can remember, he was just the last first year to be sorted in PS... he might have been mentioned in OotP, though, maybe. (I don't know why I bother replying... I don't knowwhat I'm talking about.)
I don't like how some fanfic authors make Blaise a girl... well, there's no proof he isn't, but it bugs me some.

Blaise could be a girl?? *jumps like maggot on rotten meat* HARRYS NEW GIRLFRIEND, OMG DEFINITELY!
Seriously though, I sort of thought Susan Bones was a stock character until the 5th book. I am just hoping maybe he is not. I don't know why. Slytherins usually get bunches of negative attention if they are particularly evil...so even if he is not a forgotten hero, he is not as evil as Pansy Parkinson.

Yes, Susan has shattered my vision that Hufflepuffs are all filler extras. Haha, sort of kidding. I guess. Humm, the only this that bothers me about people thinking that Blaise is a girl is the fact that Blaise was a male name. Errlack. The French.
I forgot about that Slytherin boy who can see thestrals. He's interesting. (In a sort of only-alluded-to-once way.)
Blaise Zabini is just a cool name. Heh.
