In CoS, when Harry is fighting Riddle, he's describing how similar they are, and he says how they're both half-bloods. At the time, I thought JKR had made a mistake cause both Harry's parents were a witch and wizard. But as I kept reading in the next few books, death eaters, and Voldemort kept saying the Harry was half-blood.
do you think that it's still a mistake? or something we haven't found out yet?

Harry isn't a pureblood because his mother was a muggle. Lily is Petunia's sister, she was muggle before she was a witch. so that means he's not completley pure.

I remember wondering that too...
Does anyone remember if it straight-out said he was a pureblood, or it was avoided?

I never remember it even being suggested that Harry was a pureblood. I always just thought Lily was a mudblood and James was a pureblood. But that doesn't make sense because there was no mention of the Potters when Sirius was talking about all the pureblood families... I'm confused. But then again, I don't remember there being much mention of Harry's blood in general, so... James may very well have been a pureblood... making Harry a half-blood. Perhaps Sirius was trying to avoid talking about James. Bah.

Harry isn't a pureblood because his mother was a muggle. Lily is Petunia's sister, she was muggle before she was a witch. so that means he's not completley pure. Lily was born into a muggle family, but she was born a witch. Then she married James, who was also a wizard. Therefore, Harry is not half-blood. to be a half-blood, one parent is a witch/wizard the other is purely muggle. Riddle is half blood, his mother was a witch, but his father was a muggle.

But Lily comes from a long line of muggles. We don't know about James' family, but it doesn't matter. To be pureblood, you have to have two pureblood parents. Harry isn't pureblood because of his muggle relatives. Half-blood probably isn't the right term for him either.. it'd probably more like 6/8-blood.

I think they sort of avoided it, but it might be cause Lily is muggle-born.

In the prophesy, doesn't Dumbledore say that Voldemort chose the half-blood (Harry) over the pure-blood (Neville) because Harry, being half-blood was more like himself?
And Hermoine is muggle-born. Lily is muggle-born. And James is pureblood, or at least not muggle born. Which makes Harry, half blood. 6/8 blood is actually more accurate.

6/8? Why not 3/4? yes I think he is 3/4 because he's not totally pureblood they just call him halfblood. Why aren't Harry's grandparents mentioned too often? Are they all dead? Anyway yes I think Harry is 3/4 blood but viewed as a halfblood cause he lives with muggles and mom was muggle-born, gosh it's so much easier to type mudblood.

The Potters probably weren't one of those aristrocratic old families like Sirius and Malfoy come from. To keep themselves in power, the Blacks and Malfoys would probably be disdainful of half-bloods and muggle-borns, because then some Jonny-come-lately who's grandfather was a plumber might just root out someone who's had 6 ministers of magic in their ancestry for an important job. It's the same with racism everywhere. Umm... where was I going? Oh yes, so since James was willing to marry a muggle-born he was probably somewhere in the upper middle class and didn't care much about supressing those "of inferior blood". I wonder how Sirius got to see past the prejudices of his family.

By hanging with James and Lupin? Good question though. Why have Harry's grandparents been so seldomly mentioned throughout the series? Are they all dead, and if they are why? Wizards seem to have longer life than muggles, ie Dumbledore.
