I don't think they ever mentioned his first name, or if they did, I wasn't paying attention.

Yes. Hershel S. Quirrel. The "S" is for Sandi. Essentially what the other people who quoted u said. It never mentioned his name, and if it did I would remember it not being Hershel I have a very good memory. Where'd u get proof of this?

Aren't you just hilarious...... Hmmm, I don't think it was mentioned. Do you think she(J.K. Rowling) actually bothered to make one up?

she has a reason for picking the names probably. i mean Remus. remus and romulus were brothers. romulus killed remus for the land on top of the mountain. which is today Rome. i do not know if that story is actually true. but, it is either that, or it is just a name that people in England use alot. either way, there has to be some story behind all of the names. i mean who could think of the name Hershel right off the top of their head? anyway, there has to be a name for Quirrel. Hershel might be it,. or his real name could be Homer!(name that poped into my head.) but there has to be. either that, or she does not like first names or something. i do not know.

For some she uses old roman names like Sirius, Albus, Minerva, and Remus. And then there are some like Ron and Tom that don't follow the trend. Why is Quirell's name important anyway? He's been dead for almost 5 years according to book time. I guess some are just curious about these things...
