JKR is certainly making a lot of people related to each other! Maybe she might introduce a de Mimsy-Porpington, a Flamel, a Nigellus, a Binns or someone.

Phineas reminds me strongly of Snape, for some reason...

everybody knows about snape. He's a sourpuss potions teacher with a hatred towards potters, a loyalty to dumbledore, a knack for occlumency, a hook nose, and sallow skin. Maybe snape and sirius are related(the pureblood families are all interrelated) thereby making snape some sort of descendant of Phineas. It's possible.

I've always pictured Snape, Sirius, and now Phineas to look somewhat alike. What with the dark hair and such.
So maybe they are related...

Well Sirius and Phineas are related for sure. How come the book illustrations don't like anything like the movie characters? So far book illustrations and movie actors have differed drastically in looks for: Dudley, Snape, and Sirius. There are probably more that I don't know about yet.
