I've always wondered about this.. I know they celebrate Christmas, but I'm guessing they don't go to church or anything. I mean, do they have their own religion? Do they worship one God? a bunch of nature gods? do they go to special temples? For some bizarre reason, this has randomly popped up in my brain. Eh, probably the upcoming movie and all...

I've actually always wondered about this too.
Sure, they celebrate Christmas and Easter...But are they Christian?
What about the whole Witchcraft-is-evil issue here?

Yeah, no kidding! That's why I doubt they have the same religous customs as we do. Maybe they worship the first wizard/witch as their equivalent of Jesus and such, or maybe all the witches who were burned at the stake are their equivalent of saints. Maybe instead of confession, the priest-like figure casts a truth charm to make one confess their sins. For some reason, I can see them worshiping a bunch of nature spirits like the native americans, rather than one God.

Yeah, I definetely don't see them being discriminating., but I'd guess that they probably have their own religion(s) that muggles(naturally) don't know about.

Maybe not EVERYONE celebrates Christmas, but the majority of people do. At least, the Great Hall gets all decorated up for it and they have a Christmas feast.

In the wizarding world magic is their way of life it's probably not considered a religion, so some of them may be catholic, or pagan in the sense that they worship nature. JK just doesn't focus on everyone's religious beliefs.

Well, in POA they said "God" two times. What could that mean?

Wow that's really.. mind boogling. What context did they say 'God' in? I don't see why it's so hard to imagine some of them beleive in God, witchcraft isn't evil to them because they live in a different world.

Exactly. It's because they live in a different world I find it doubtful that they have all the same religous customs/ beliefs/ figures as we do. It just seems very unlikely.

But that doesn't mean they don't have religion. They have similarities to a normal human world, so they can have some type ogorganized religion we know there has to be some form of chirstianity if they celebrate Christmas and Easter. Their world revovles around maigc so they probably wouldn't find it evil but they can still have their own form of one of our religions since JK based this world on our culture then gave it a magical twist. *random* My friend Megan just called me to tell me about the ASOUE movie. Of course I've known about it for some time but it was still nice of her. /randomness

Yeah, that's basically what I said earlier. My point was that I imagine they have some form of organized (well, maybe not organized) religion that only they know about. I'm probably going to see the ASOUE movie out of loyal fanhood, but I might not see it, as to protect my image of the books (Jim Carrey as Count Olaf: ) It's just not... right (heavy sigh)

Well only they know about their whole exsistance so yeah only they'd know about their religions.
Jim Carrey is too pretty to be Olaf, that seems like a minor problem anyway compared to the trailer I saw.

Which trailor? I saw the tv spot. Is there another one out? In the tv spot he just seemed too Jim Carrey-ish and not olaf-ish enough. That's just not going to work for me if he's like that throughout the entire movie, especially if the movie's all kiddy-ish (shudder at the thought)
