If Oliver's a fifth year, then why did he stay on for an extra year until OoTP? He should have left in PoA

wood did leave in PoA
I think you're thinking of Marcus Flint. he was a 6th year in PS/SS. and was still in PoA.
but neither were in OotP

Endy: The baby thing.
M: She was ALREADY going to wait 'till 2025, now it'll never be written. She'll die before she gets us a new book. They'll have to publish an unfinished 6th book and there will be no seventh.
